TGIF in a big way. The days are getting longer and the fact that it's supposed to hit 59 degrees today? Wow.

I've been a day behind all week. Literally, I thought Tuesday was Wednesday, Wednesday was Thursday, and then I was anxious all day yesterday, because I was pi$$ed it wasn't Friday. For some reason, I was just off kilter in every way except for my diet. What does one do in these situations? Work out of course, which is what I did 4 days in a row.

My wife came home for the weekend last night and made dinner - Broccoli-Shallot Frittata - which was great. I thought it would have been too egg heavy, but not at all. This brings me to:

I still find it amazing how many new combinations you can have with raw food stuffs. When you "make" pre-prepared food (Lets be honest, you're only heating them up to the point of reanimation), you put the thing in the oven and 12-18 minutes later you get what's in the picture on the box and you're pretty sure what it’s going to taste like. But when you are making something from scratch, you are constantly tasting and adjusting the flavor throughout. Also, if you do not like the end product, you can change up the ingredients next time you make it. If you try a pre-processed food for the first time and don’t like it, you more than likely have 3-7 more servings (more if you shop at Sam's, Costco, or BJ's), of the same s**t, you just choked down. Sure you can douse it with Franks Red Hot, but you still have that feeling in the pit of your stomach, more so because Swanson took you for a ride, but also combined with what Swanson just did to you.

What can we start the weekend with? I got it. Spring is coming, pitchers and catchers have reported, so here is something from Bull Durham, one of the classic baseball movies of all time (one of, not the most. Also, how annoying is it that someone somewhere deemed it a “Chickflik,” so it is no longer a baseball movie? Answer: Quite.). I think this applies to life as well, with a few word substitutions:

“…So relax! Let's have some fun out here! This game's fun, OK? Fun goddamnit. And don't hold the ball so hard, OK? It's an egg. Hold it like an egg.” – Crash Davis

Good Tuesday Everyone!!

Topic #1: Weight- I felt really sluggish all day yesterday. I got home and forced myself to work out: Same timing but I upped the intensity. I feel much better today and I lost some water weight.

Topic #2: Food- I'm a little bummed this morning because I forgot last night's leftovers in the fridge (Fettucine with Salmon and Asparagus). I'm looking to convince myself that it just means the leftovers are available for tomorrow night. Georgetown is in town tomorrow to play the UConn Men and I don't want to spend the 2nd half in the kitchen. I already plan to spend the 1st half in Man-Town riding the bike. I could have it tonight but I have to use up the other half of the thawed salmon filet before it gets rank in my fridge. Can you say Wasabi Salmon Burger? Good stuff.

Topic #3: Before/After Comparison- I changed my lifestyle this passed Nov. 29. My profile picture is from two days prior in the parking lot of Rentschler Field, UConn's home football stadium, but you can only see my face and not very well at that. For obvious reasons, I avoided most cameras prior to Thanksgiving, especially if they were about to take full body shots. Apparently my Quest of Denial was for not because my mother sent me three photos displaying my former self. I have to crop them and do some zooming to show just me, but in less than 13 pounds I reach my 1st goal. I think that is a good time to publish a Work-In-Process.

That is it for now. So raise your mugs. Here's to a productive Tuesday on all fronts!!! Salut!!

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

I have never been a big fan of the Hallmark Holiday, but others are...including my wife. So like it or not, I have to observe it. On the other hand, I am a big fan of how we observed Valentine's Day this year. My wife is in a 2 month traveling stretch for work and is coming home only on the weekends. So instead of trying to force the issue out of a crowded restaurant, we made a private weekend out of it. We made virtually every meal together and rented a couple movies (Social Network and The Towne). The only thing missing was the crackling fire, but the good TV is in a different room than the fire place)

For our dinners we tried a couple things out of her Taste of Home magazine (Spicy Deviled eggs and a strawberry-pineapple-lime drink) and I picked a recipe off the Weight Watchers website (Creamy Fettuccine with Scallops and Spinach...super good). I also made crab stuffed mushrooms off this site (decent, but I'll have to tweak it a little next time.). I was supprised to see that the 10 point Weight Watchers recipe included white pasta and flour. I used half the oil, wheat flour, and wheat pasta and got it down to 8 points. It made 4 servings so I have lunch today and tomorrow.

Weight-wise, I stalled a little bit. It is still negative, so that's a positive (Wha, wha, WHAT!?!?) but I did not work out as much as I oiginally planned. Perhaps a silver lining will appear where I confused my body last week out of a plateau effect. We'll see. Any how I hope everyone has a great week and I will leave you with this little nugget from Coach Wooden...

"If we magnified blessings as much as we magnify disappointments, we would all be much happier."
— John Wooden (Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court)
