Happy Friday Everyone!!

Today is when the real rains hit CT. There is a flood warning for the entire state. It's nothing, of course, compared to the water issues happening in Japan, Hawaii, or the West Coast. My thoughts are with them and anyone who has loved ones there.

Anyhow, I'm in much better spirits than on Wednesday. All in all, it's been a fair week, not great but not bad. I've just been feeling unproductive for the last few days. Having "Linger" by the Cranberries stuck in my head for two days isn't helping!!!! I heard it in the market and now it's stuck in my head. Of all songs, really?!?!

I'm really looking forward to the comedy show tomorrow. Also UConn is playing in the Big East Semis tonight by way of upsetting Pittsburgh yesterday. I have many other thoughts on college basketball, but this is a weight management journal. Anyway, I'm going to happy hour tonight to celebrate a buddy's birthday. I hope he doesn't mind that come 7:00 my attention turns to the game.

Exercise for the week: 3 days of bike (32.4 miles) and two days of planks.

Food: Unbeknownst to me, my mother subscribed to Cooking Light last year. We told her how much our cooking at home has helped us toward our goal. They are now sitting on our kitchen table, with dog-eared pages. Then my wife sends me web pages of WW recipes that she wants to try. I've been making all new dishes but since she's been traveling, I have loads of leftovers and I'm not cooking dinner every night. Long story short I still have perishable ingredients in the fridge for dishes I wanted to make earlier in the week!!! What I have made this week? Wild Salmon and Poached Egg sandwich (Cooking Light), Fettuccine with Mushrooms and Hazelnuts (Cooking Light), Chicken Tetrazzini (WW), and Baked Ziti and Spicy Turkey Sausage (WW). Apparently, I've been on a Mediterranean kick. My only complaint is the prep times for all these recipes is probably 2x what the recipe says and I’m not eating until 9:00 if I’m working out. Don’t tell the “Paleo” guy. That was mean…Sorry.

Okay this is long enough :), so I will conclude with another favorite (basketball related, of course): “Be quick, but don’t hurry.” – John Wooden

I had such a good weekend that I don't want to be a bummer today, but I'm feeling a little off. It's a combination of things. I've been eating pretty good. I did some heavy calistenics last night (3x25 crunches, 3x15 push ups, and 3x10sec plank). I did not do any cardio, though. The small amount of exercise is only part of it. I am working through other personal goings on as well. I was awake for a few hours during the night and I had to get up at 5:30 this morning. I'll probably be able to take care of the sleep thing tonight. We'll see on the exercise. Only time will tell on the other issues.

(Wow, who let this imposter in?!?!?!)

Okay, now for some happiness: 1) Of all the down days I've had during the past 3+ months, luckily it hasn't seemed to affect my weight loss of cortisol production. 2) My wife comes home tonight for the week and potentially for the foreseeable future. It'll be weird divying up dinner responsibilities during the week again (We both enjoy cooking).

Good Day, Folks!! I am feeling really good today. I planned on reclaiming some poundage this weekend so I am still 3 lbs. away from my mini goal. But with any luck, I will be setting out on another journey further down the scale starting next week. I have to. The arrows depicting my current weight and my mini-goal weight literally cannot get closer together!!!! Anyhow, Today will be a Journal O' Brag. It's a novella, so you may want to read it in shifts (Ha, Ha)!!! As promised, I have reluctantly posted a Before/After photo:

The left-hand photo is from 11/14/10, a little over 2 weeks prior to me setting out on my new way of life. I was at or around 280 lbs. The right-hand photo is from Saturday (3/5/11). As you see, I still have a bit of work to do on my gut, but the key stats are: -51 lbs. over 97 days. The jeans in the right-hand photo were the subject of a post response I made last week. I packed them for a vacation to San Francisco last September knowing full well I could not button them, let alone wear them out in public. Now I can take these 36W/30L jeans off without unbuttoning them (They are being held up by a belt that was useless not more than 45 days ago). Honestly, looking at the 11/14 photo really makes me vurb.

More than a few people this weekend were amazed with how few steps I took along the way (as we were drinking beers), because I honestly haven't deprived myself of anything. I've eaten carbs. I've eaten pizza, battered fried chicken wings, nachos, and red meat. I've eaten out at restaurants and I've drank beer and hard liquor. However, I have also consumed everything mentioned above IN MODERATION. This lifestyle has truly morphed into a non-diet!!!

Like many others, I feel this site is immeasurably helpful. I was just looking for a basic food diary when I found the Blackberry app. Beyond using what FS has to offer, I’ve only formed a few other habits: 1) More than 80% of my groceries come from the outside walls of the market (i.e. produce, meat counter, fish counter, dairy and cheese fridge, and bakery); 2) portion monitoring; and 3) exercise 3-4 times a week.

This way is not for everyone and it certainly is not the only method by which to gain back this part of your life, but it works for me. If someone else can take something away from it makes it all the better!! One thing is for sure, I had no idea I'd find so many others the same position or so eager to offer help and support. So thank you to all my buddies as well as those who had offered something on my journals or in the forums.

Have a great day, everyone!! Salut!!

Good afternoon, everyone. I’m getting excited for the weekend. My wife comes home tonight and we’re driving up to Central Massachusetts for my nephew’s B-day tomorrow. I actually didn’t want to go initially because my wife is still traveling and the last thing we really want to do is drive somewhere else in our only free time together. Also, even though the drive is under 1 ½ hours, we rarely go up and back in the same day. Our compromise was I drive up in the morning and she will drive back in the evening, so we can spend Sunday doing the first thing we want to do with our free time together **wink, wink, nudge, nudge**.

Now I’m excited to go. I haven’t been “home” since Christmas and I’ve lost about 30 (unofficial) pounds since then. In fact, unofficially, I am knocking on my goal’s door!! I’ve told my family of my weight loss, but they haven’t seen me. My mother is especially eager to see me because she hopes to get inspired to get back on her proverbial horse.

Lifestyle-wise, I’ve ridden almost 33 miles this week and I plan to work out again tonight before my wife gets home. In terms of meals, I ate leftovers for the most part this week and stayed pretty much where I wanted to in terms of daily intake. One day though I ate pecans just because they were there and not because I was hungry.

Last night I pulled down a Weight Watchers steak recipe for dinner (My wife is an on-line member). For the most part, I don’t mind the New PointsPlus system, but I can’t figure it out. They didn’t make the new food formula public for obvious reasons (**cough** MONEY **cough**), and that’s fine. You can’t begrudge someone for trying to be more successful. However, when I input the fat, carbs, protein, and fiber from Fat Secret back into the WW PointsPlus calculator online and it came back with a different point value!!! It’s almost as if something was lost in translation. The problem is, this was a Weight Watchers recipe and it’s not like I re-entered into a formula I got online (which is readily available). This was the actual WW site. I know they are trying to stress fruits, veggies and poultry over starches and red meat, but can’t they be more consistent? Anyways and again, if that’s the worst I have to complain about, I should be so lucky.

Well friends, that does it for my Journals this week. Have a good one!!!

Good Morning all.

Oh boy, do I feel great this morning!!! I really don't know what it is, but it's head and shoulders improvement over yesterday morning, mentally. I really want to figure it out because I want to bottle it for next Monday!!

I started doing the "eat when I'm hungry" thing last night, so I had two half sour pickles when I got home before my workout. Then I did another 40 minutes on the bike before making Turkey Habanero Marinara, another K8tk recipe, with Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Wheat Linguine. Another good one from Kate!!!

My brother and sister-in-law are having a birthday party for my godson this weekend. I wanted to get to my goal by the time I saw my family again (last saw them at Christmas), but I will be close enough. I've been toying with wearing the same clothes I wore at either TG or my niece's christening for an accurate before/after comparison. It going to be approaching 50 degrees this weekend though and there's also going to be a bunch of people in their house. UConn is going to be on ESPN, so my only other goal is for the song singing to happen during halftime :). I'm not a huge cake guy anyway, so we'll see if I indulge.

Have a great day everyone and hopefully my good mood can be transmitted through the Hi-speed cable in the wall!!!
