Today was a good day. I kept track of my foods, refrained from eating any of the candy that I keep at work for the kids, and most importantly made some good choices about how to handle some the the food challenges that lay ahead of me. As a part of the International Social Committee I am going to be responsible for bringing cookies to the Ice Cream social that we will be having next week to celebrate staff birthdays. I found a recipe for a very elegant looking mint bar that is prepared in 9x12 inch pans. I will leave the cutting until just before the event which will prevent me from sampling. This Thursday, there are two events that are both potential diet busters - one is a barbecue luncheon prepared for the entire staff by the Canadians. With a staff of nearly 175, it will be easy enough to slip away and have a sane lunch where I can remain in control. For dinner however, the Director has a dinner planned at one of the local German restaurants as a way of saying thanks to all of the international committee members - I can't really get out of that one so I am just going to try to do my best. Any tips out there? I always tell myself that I can handle restaurants but it seems that just after the first few bites I give up my resolve and just decide that I will get back on the track the next day. The problem is that if I get too far off track it takes days and sometimes weeks or more to get back on the program. There must be a better way to handle social obligations like this.
