Good to see a drop this week. It isn't as much as it was earlier this week however it is where the weight settled out at. I lost 1.4 pounds. This takes care of last weeks gain. That is good but it does have that two steps forward and one step back feel.

I was very conscious of how much spray oil I used this past week. That was quite helpful. I am sure that single change has made the biggest difference this week on the scale. The oil/butter aspect has always been challenging for me. I just plain love fats! I have weaned myself off animal fat. I have avoided habitually adding butter to everything. Many steps have been made over the literal decades since I have begun this journey in earnest. Clearly, I had more to do! As it happens, I was generally not where homemade baking was available. That also helped. My other weak spot!

This week was lots to do with my father-in-law. We are now at the place where he is willing to consider a senior's apartment that has many supports for him. We are touring the facilities this Friday. I am truly hopeful. He is telling people that he needs to make the move. I think he has come to the same conclusions that the rest of us have. This week we had another hospital emergency room visit (5 hours!) when he wanted a medicine adjustment, the next day I took him shopping and picked up his prescriptions. My daughter picked up additional medication for him and took him for his blood tests so I am not in this alone- thank goodness! Today is my grandson's 15th birthday. I am hopeful my father in law will join us at the sushi restaurant this afernoon. I have offered to come get him. We'll see.

This time I am baffled. I gained 1.2 pounds. I am below my calorie window on average this week. I have been up in down on my daily weight from a loss of 1.4 to a gain of 1.2 (today!)

There are two possibilities that I can think of. Maybe I am consistently underestimating something - perhaps the oil spray?? The second is that I fell on the ice yesterday and my knee is a bit 'spongy' feeling. Maybe some water in the tissues? Not sure.

This week has been lots around getting services for my father-in-law as he begins to decline but is determined to remain in his home. He is devastated by the loss of his license. That is the next thing I need to tackle this coming week - how he can go shopping on a daily basis if he wants to. He is concerned about getting a ride back home from the store and needing a way to summon a driver. He doesn't have a cell phone. Truthfully, I feeling somewhat exhausted by trying to address all the needs and meanwhile having to 'yell' at him because of his poor hearing to let him know what is happening. Hard to communicate.

Clocking in more of a gain than I expected. I am up 1.6 pounds since two weeks ago. Yesterday I was a pound less....not sure why I went up a pound. Should go fairly quickly!

Last weekend I was in the City for a Buddhist course and a Blues Dance Party! I had a wonderful time. I came home with a 1.2 pound gain. Not what I wanted but not terrible. Then I apparently added 0.4 pound this week.

The weekend was definitely worth it and I am so glad that I went!

This last couple of weeks have been centring around my father-in-law (91). His health has taken a sudden turn for the worse. He is adamant that he is staying in his home however we are scrambling to get things in place for him as he cannot function on his own. In the meantime my daughter has been caring for him. It isn't sustainable in the long run - she has two kids and a spouse so staying at his place just isn't feasible. Today my daughter and I are interviewing two possible caregivers. I am hopeful they will be a good fit.

Next week I am in town three days so I will be putting a plan in place to be ready for that. Meals are an issue in town. I often pack my own but that isn't always possible depending on circumstances.

Finally! A decent loss. I am down 4 pounds from last week. That is incredibly substantial. I also want to point out that I have been steadily gaining the last 4 weeks to a total of 7.4 pounds. I have now got half of that off.

I note that over those four weeks that my average calories were 100 or more per day over my 'window'. I ate within my window this week and surprise, surprise I lost! Very predictable both the gains and the loss.

Right now I am working on being more mindful about night time snacking. I am trying to pause before I do it. It certainly has made me more aware of what I am doing. I suspect my indulging would be a higher magnitude without that pause however I have not stopped.

I am tracking my exercise more. I am averaging around an hour of exercise per day which is what I want for myself. I am trying to balance flexibility, strength and cardio. I think I am doing not too bad on that score - maybe a bit shy on the strength piece.

Next week I am planning to be in Edmonton for two events. I am going to an in-person course that I had originally signed up to do on zoom. I was invited by a friend of mine who has a Blues band to come to a show. I couldn't resist making the 6 hour run to the city with both things happening! A Blues Dance Party!! How fun! My friend Diane is going with me so that will make it extra nice. I will go on Friday and be home Sunday night. This will have some ramifications on the food front. Fortunately Diane eats well and that will help.
