I'm not 100% sure how exactly how I want to go about eating...whether I just want to count calories or carbs or both.... I did Atkins before when I first joined fatsecret but I it was hard to keep my will with so many restrictions. I am aware I need to be disciplined to succeed but I just want to feel like I am allowed to eat and still be healthy. Things with my health are different now too, like not having a gallbladder affects me being able to eat fat which is kinda a big part of Atkins...Also, I'm very mildly allergic to wheat so I try to eat gluten free when I have noodles for like spaghetti. But all noodles are high in carbs if they are gluten free. I really don't know what to do with myself some days. I try to avoid breads most of the time, it doesn't really do much to me but my allergy test is what said I'm allergic... But if I eat potatoes or something that's high in carbs. UGH I can't win no matter what I do, I want to feel like I am allowed to eat foods I like, not deprived of everything with flavor... It took a lot for me to give up soda but I know that is not the only thing I need to do to be healthy...

Throughout the years, I've done low carb diets, low fat diets (lost good on that one and maintained for 17 years), and this last time I started my weight loss journey with Weight Watchers, and have to admit it was pretty easy because I didn't have to restrict any of my favorite foods...I just had to watch portion sizes. But I've come to find that I prefer the good old standby, calories in, calories out. I was always such a PITA to have to count calories, I'd get sick of it...but with the web sites we now have at our fingertips (FS, CC, etc) counting calories has never been as easier. And it WORKS! Now, giving up soda? That's not a diet choice, that's a health choice. It's bad for you, the carbonation is bad for you, so pat yourself on the back for that one! But while you can't eat a box of chocolates and expect to lose weight, you CAN still have chocolate (says this confirmed chocoholic). Just allow for 1 or 2 pieces in your daily calorie allotment. (Or point system if you count WW points) Me, I'm hooked on pretzel sticks! So I start my day by adding in one serving (28 pretzel sticks) which I won't actually eat until evening, when I watch TV. But that way eating them won't drive me over my daily limit.(3 points on WW, 110 calories for calorie counting) If you love a certain food, you don't have to give it up! You might not want to eat it every day (like spaghetti!), but you can move over to a healthier version (like whole wheat/whole grain pasta0, measure it, and including in your weekly meal planning! If you set yourself up to diet, you set yourself up to some day stop dieting...and very possibly gain the weight back. If you set yourself to change your lifestyle, you set yourself up for a lifetime of eating right, maintaining good health and healthy weight...and of enjoying your mealtimes! :)

Good luck! It seems like my diet has to keep changing through out my journey. I carb cycled for awhile, but my cravings got out of control as well as my portions. So I am back to low carbing. I'm hoping that I can get up to about 40-50 net carbs for maintenance, but I still have weight to lose, so I'll have to keep it under 30 for now. I'm sure you'll figure out whats going to work for you without feeling too restricted.

Thanks Char :) I think maybe planning my meals in advance will help a lot, I have OCD so not having "rules" for eating leaves me undisciplined and overindulging, if that makes any sense... I think I am going to sit down with my husband and plan out the meals for next week that way I can put it all in and see where my calories will be :) And if I know I will be way under then I will know I can maybe have a small serving of ice cream or something :)

Missy try out either diet and see if one works for you. There's nothing saying you can't switch diets even a day or two through it. If it isn't going to work, it isn't going to work. I have to say I LOVE food, and I will most likely never give up sweets or fast food. I get around it by tracking calories. I know i can eat a cheeseburger for lunch if I skip the fries and have a low calorie dinner, and exercise a little longer. I'm not perfect, but as a single mom with 3 kids I'm just being real. Good luck girl, we can do it!!

Try making your own at home!! :) Flat bread or tortilla crisped up, with a little marinara, turkey pepperoni onions and cheese is delicious. Or use pre cooked chicken, or ground turkey. :) Pizza is one of my favorites! A little high in sodium, but worth it occasionally.

Can't stand the flavor of the turkey pepperoni lol but that is a good thought :) As long as I try to keep drinking lots of water it should help with the sodium.

frankly, the carbs are the devil. If you can avoid eating anything "bread-like" (which included rice) especially for breakfast or lunch, you'll hopefully have the same reaction that my body has which is, namely, avoiding the constant feeling of being hungry an hour after you've eaten. Bagels are/the/worst for me. If I start the day with a bagel, I am on a carb craving (with corresponding energy crashing) all day long. When I traveled to Germany for business alot, I noticed that an "american" breakfast was an oddity. Their breakfast is basically cold cuts and cheeses, like our lunch essentially. All proteins. So try having a protein-heavy breakfast (not yogurt, that tends to be sugary even if it doesn't have added sugar or added fake sugar... the dairy has lactose which all "...ose" things are sugar. Sets up the same carb crave/crash cycle

How about a more relaxed approach: just eat your carbs earlier in the day and have lean meals in the evening
