I need a recommendation for "travel snacks". They need to be portable, keep well without a refrigeration, tasty, appropriate for the SB diet, and filling. Cheese sticks, I guess. Anything else?

Thanks!

The only other thing that I can think of is nuts, cheese. I would probably go overboard on the peanuts and cashews while traveling (not paying attention)

There isn't a whole lot with phase 1- but if you do phase 2 snacks and stick to phase 1 for meals, you should be ok. Phase 2 you can have multi-grain crackers (wheat things makes a tasty one) carrots of course and raw veggies, check the labels on things like sun chips, wheat pretzels and such... in small amounts I would think it's ok. Don't just put the whole back in the center console and chomp away! You'll have to put it into smaller baggies.

For phase 1, nuts are the most obvious choice, I think. I carry a small ziplock bag of almonds with me in my briefcase/bag so that I have them available if I need them. It's easy to eat too many of these, though, so probably a good idea to count out the right amount and put the bag back away. :) Another snack I use a lot is the low fat string cheese, or celery sticks with the laughing cow cheese (low fat cream chz would work in its place). I think you could do celery and peanut butter, too. Raw veggies like cukumbers and peppers are good, but not the easiest to travel with, but celery is pretty durable.

If you are on phase II, there are some really tasty granola/cereal type bars made Kraft under the name South Beach Diet. I picked some up at Walmart for occassions when I need a handy, portable snack.

Roast a can of rinsed and drained Garbanzo beans/Chickpeas (same thing, name depends on where you live) in a 350 degree oven for about an hour. They should be very crunchy, not stick to the cookie sheet, and rattle on the cookie sheet when they're done. They make an awsome crunchy snack, and since they're a bean, they're ok to have on Phase I, in moderation, of course. I'm going to try tossing them with garlic-herb seasoning before roasting next time.
