Goals. Something a lot of people set on here, and as I've been looking at mine compared to others, I have to wonder if I've set mine unrealistically. I mean.. yeah, it's over 80 pounds to lose, but I've been at my goal weight before and I looked damn good. It's in the healthy weight range for my height and build, so I think it's an okay goal. I just don't know.

I feel like other people's goals are more reachable, and I may get discouraged if I don't meet mine (because hey, I never do). But I don't want to settle and fall short of where I want to be. What are your thoughts on goals?

I don't think your goal is unreasonable as a long-term thing. I think you might want to set some mini-goals (lose 20 pounds, etc) so that you've got something you can hit in the meantime. If you only focus on the long-term Big Ending Goal, you're likely to get discouraged when other people hit smaller goals and you're still working. I know that I'd like to get down to 150 or so, but I set my goal as 180 just to get there first. You've got a great goal! Just put some little goals in between here and there so you feel like you're succeeding. :)

Yeah, I actually have a mini-goal with Lauren right now of 20 pounds by March, but I didn't put that up on my weight goal - it's just something I'm aware of doing. I figured I should put my end on the official goal, and my mini-goals are just in my head and on my calendar at home!

There's nothing wrong with having goals, but tell yourself it's all about the journey. People's biggest problem is they set their goals for a certain date and if they don't meet it, they feel really bad. Make it about eating healthy, exercising for health and firm body and living your life in the best way you know how. We all have loss's, gains and weeks of staying the same. Just jump in and keep going no matter what. One day you will meet your goal.

Thank you for that! Those are very good insights. I don't have a specific date in mind, but I do have a specific number - I think I need to make my thoughts more general than just thinking about the number.

Your goal isnt unreachable. I lost 95lbs on here. Never ever thought it would happen but I did it. My starting weight was 254 and my first goal was 190, hit that and then chged it to 170 hit that then chgd it to 150, trying to hit that. You may not see that on my page because I changed my diet and it started my weightloss over. I think goals are good as long as they are healthy. If you are 120 and want to be 75lbs then now thats not good. You want to be healthy maybe that is at the goal you set maybe it isnt. Your body will let you know. Good Luck in this journey.

BTW- How tall are you? Is 140 within your healthy weight range? I know that for me I am 5'5 and my range that the chart at the drs says is 130-135 umm yeah right! lol. I had 4 kids I will be healthy in my opinion at 150.

Wow - 95 pounds is an amazing accomplishment! I'm not entirely doing this for vanity - I really want to get healthy and in shape before I'm out of my twenties (turning 27 in February, have been overweight since 18) and 140 is in my healthy weight range - I'm 5'7, so it varies depending on where you look but according to the last sight I was on I should be between 120 (not gonna happen) and 150. Right now I'm just aiming for under 200!

I hear ya! Under 200 is a great thing when it happens. Oh what a day! I did this to get healthy and fit too. I think when you do it for health reasons then you get the added bonus of being called skinny in a good way :) Do you have a reward in mind for your under 200? Mine was getting my nose pierced. hitting a 75lb mark I got tattoos I wanted. Smaller goals like 10lb goals I got a haircut or my eyebrows waxed. It really helped keep me focused.

Ooh, no - I haven't thought of a reward yet, but that is an encouraging and exciting thought. ;) I've kind of wanted a tattoo for a long time.. maybe it'll be a good benchmark to aim for!
