I'm back...FINALLY!!! After being tested for every horrible bacteria and infection the medical profession could think of (I was about to give Dr. House a call) and nearly being admitted to the hospital for fluids - I SOLVED THE MYSTERY! Yes, me. Not the doctor, me! From the beginning I thought that this illness had something to do with my nutritional supplements and, in fact, brought a list of everything I was taking with me to the 1st appointment...no one took it seriously.

Finally, having been sick for 3 weeks, I did some more research, called the doctor's office and said, "Please tell Dr. Murray I believe I have Vitamin D toxicity." I explained that I had been taking Vitamin D AND fish oil.

I got a call back 5 minutes later telling me to stop taking all of it (duh - I couldn't eat chicken broth without getting sick and he thought I was still taking vitamins?!?) and to resume once this "episode" was over so we would know for sure that's what it is. I have no plans of repeating this episode...ever...even in the interest of science.

At any rate, Vitamin D is fat soluble (your body stores it as opposed to most vitamins that you just pee out if you have to much of it) so basically you just have to wait for it to get out of your system....and it takes a long time. Today was my first day back at the gym and is my first real attempt at eating normally. I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!

So, here's my caveat: make sure you check with your doc what the recommended dosage is for your supplements, check for conflicts and, most of all, listen to your body. If you start a supplement and get sick assume it's the supplement and lay off. I also have to say that how much Vitamin D your body needs or can handle is individual. I'm 34 and apparently have a sensitive system (who ever thought all 200+ lbs of me would be a delicate flower?) so what I was taking was excessive. It should also be noted that when I started taking the fish oil I had no idea how much D was in it.

Long story long, I'm doing much better and am back on track so I'll be on FS regularly again. Hope everyone else is doing well!
