So today I have a one day business trip to Canada for a meeting. I designed a base layer line for the company Avalanche and this is my line review with the Avalanche team. I am a bit nervous. But I decided on a one day trip rather than leave yesterday night because I didn't want to have to make more bad food choices. Traveling on the job is tough. Last month I went to a huge show for work for four days and it was hard to find foods that were paleo or keto. Now that I am back to eating better I find it tough on business trips

This morning I woke up at 3:45 am. Only had time to get dressed and leave. I had to eat something at the airport. So I got a bacon egg and cheese on a ciabatta roll. I know rolls are bad. I didn't have much choice. And I had a little bit of oatmeal. I saw in my group text with my co workers hey wanted to buy bagels for a meeting. First of all I don't like bagels much and second I rather starve than eat a bagel. So I had the bacon egg and cheese at the airport. I'm praying it holds me off until lunch. Also I hope lunch isn't some completely unhealthy meal today. I bought a cliff bar incase as a backup

But to everyone out there who travels for business. How do you plan for this? To make sure you don't completely fall off the cliff when it comes to your diet? Don't say eat nuts because I don't really like nuts lol!

Haha you are correct. Also I can opt to eat at the more fancy little places that may offer a nice salad at the air port. But at 5:30 am something like that wasn't open yet!

I used to travel all the time from Maine to Virginia. I hate nuts too so I feel for you because that seems to be lots of peeps go to. Most of what I used to eat most likely wouldn't work for you on a low carb diet but I was famous for good dark chocolate and dried fruit (I adore apricots) in my briefcase. Quick energy and kept me from hitting the airport shops before I could raid the hotels snack bar. I always have a water bottle too to keep hydrated, that can help. I had a coworker doing low carb that always had one of those camping foldable forks so he could eat the meat/ cheese/egg from a sandwich without eating the buns on the run. Wish I could be more help, traveling for work is awful, it's one of the reasons I switched careers.

Hey Nicholai I am with you on the dark chocolate. On my trip I bought a huge water bottle to lug around (thank god for it) and got a bar of dark chocolate. This helped me a lot. I should of taken the bun off the egg/meat/cheese sandwich but the place I went to, there wasn't much volume inside the sandwich to omit the bread (it sounds bad I know) but next time I can just order a straight up omlete I will do it. I can agree with you, traveling can be bad for work. Right now I do not travel often, when I do It feels nice to get out of the typical office day to day routine. But I am sure if I travelled all the time I would have a hard time staying in shape and eating healthy.

Hey congrats on the success with your line BTW. Avalanche clothing? I thought they were based in Boston? I love their pullovers, just wish thay had an xl for a wee bit more roominess.

I tend to be thrifty so I hate not eating what I pay for but if you really want to stick to your diet eat the bacon and egg but don't eat the roll, or perhaps just eat half of the roll. Protein type bars are good for travel but I try not to eat too many because of all the chemicals and process foods. Since you don't like nuts... cheeses, hard boiled eggs, beef jerky, travel well. I sometime buy a pound of cheddar cheese cut into 1 oz pieces and pack in sandwich size ziplock bags, same for the eggs and even breakfast sausages. You can freeze ahead of time if you need them for the next day.

I know this is my obsessive compulsive side coming out, but after getting caught int he same situation, I started to scope out the airport eatery prior to going on my trips. I would get online and find out what foods they had, then plan my meals according to what they had. It's so hard, but I wish you the best and hoped this help:) Also congrats on your line!!

Thanks marivega! That's a great idea you pointed out. Next time I have a early business trip where I must eat at the airport I will look up the menus in advance so I am not stuck with making a semi-unhealthy choice.

No problem! Some airports are better than others, but sometimes you gotta take the lesser of the two evils. Happy healthy eating!

I actually have a baggie of protein powder that mixes well with water and make shakes in coffee cups so people never know I am "eating"
