I ‘unintentionally’ did calorie cycling last week. And I say unintentionally because on days when I ate above my RDI I just wanted to satisfy my cravings with no restrictions; it didn’t even bother me. And when I ate at a calorie deficit, it’s only because I didn’t feel like eating much. I had no goal in mind…

Anyway, good to know that calorie cycling can be effective.

If you're not already doing it, I think it's best to not have a set RDI but rather a range. so if your set is 1700, rather work on 1500-1900 to accommodate days of being more hungry or active and days where not. People sometimes hold the perception that the body resets energy every 24hrs, when a sustained deficit or surplus over time matters

There's a lot to be said for listening to your hunger or your lack thereof. The human body actually has a lot of capacity for self-regulation of weight. I don't mean indulging in every craving at every opportunity, to clarify, but hunger is a signal

I definitely believe in calorie cycling. I have had times where my weight hasn't budged for a few days and then I eat bread and pasta for a day (in moderation of course) and I drop.

It’s amazing that a lot of people have great success on calorie cycling. I had never really believed in it until now. Also, I like the idea of eating within a range rather than on a set deficit. I might just stick to that and see if it carries me to 60. Thanks for that suggestion. Most of the time when I “binge” it’s because I would’ve ignored my hunger cues during the day, or underestimate that I would even feel hungry. So that’s absolutely correct, listening to our hunger cues is most important.

What’s calorie cycling?

It’s basically eating more calories on some days (maintenance calories) and eating less calories on some (calorie deficit). But the whole idea around it is to maintain an average deficit at the end of the week as when you’re not cycling and just on a normal deficit (hope I’m making sense). It’s effective for your metabolism as it keeps your body from going into starvation mode due to a constant deficit.
