Validation---I think we all need validation so here is mine.

At 18 when I joined the Army I was 242 had to lose weight to get in Army I had to 238 and got to 237, by the time I finished basic training and AIT Advanced Individual Training I was down to 200lbs still overweight by Army standards but pasted the BF test, so over the next 20 years there was not a time when I met the height and weight standards and I always had to have body fat measured. So that brings me to now and my validation I am currently at 198.6 feel great way better body wise, self confidence wise, and happy with myself then when I was 18.

I just had a friend ask why they can't see any change and that they have been working hard watching what they it, I think this is because we see ourselves as fat in the mirror and we have to get over that I am sure there is a medical name for it but I don't know. So the validation is I am mostly over I can look in the mirror most days and I don't see my fat self I see my strong self and I like it, sometimes the fat guy sneaks in and I just get rid of him. Have an awesome Friday everyone.

How tall are you? And when you dive into a pool do you sink or float?

Self-image affecting your viewpoint - I sure agree with that!!!! Have you ever walked by someone and thought "poor dear" and then realize that it was YOU reflected by a mirror? I've done that time and again. Which is just silly, I know. But we do tend to expect perfection, especially as that's what we see on television, in the magazines, etc. As for your "fat guy in the mirror" Rockiesfan... I think you should kiss him goodbye forever. Dude - you look good. And, thank you for your military service. Our freedoms and way of life are thanks to guys like you. Essayons!

I would have to agree about the self image thing. It is something I struggled with and still do at times. I am not as hard on myself as I used to be though once I realized that even if I did get to my goal weight...I was never going to be one of those "petite" girls (thank you grandma for the broad shoulders lol).

At 6 feet, 198 is not a bad weight. I asked about the pool given that fat floats and muscle sinks. If you float easily you still have some body fat, but 6 feet and under 200 makes me think you don't have much body fat. In my case, I am only 5'7" and 250 but when I dive into a pool I go to the bottom like a cinder block. I would guess I am about 15% body fat, mainly lower abdomen, that I need to exercise off. You'll know when you reached the end of your journey when you are happy with you. Ultimately, you have the only opinion that matters!

Thank you all a lot of it is self image and I have a great one for me now. Essayons how did you know I started as a Combat Engineer? Sorry Eddie I thought you was making a joke about the pool but I definitely see the point you were making.
