Thought I bake my first ever homemade bread today, using not salt, not sugar and whole wheat flour. It is real yeast, though. My wife heard me beating something in the kitchen and asked me what I was doing.
I said, "The recipe says to punch the dough, so I'm punching the dough."
She said, "You're not supposed to punch the dough!" At which I showed her in the recipe where it said 'Punch the Dough.' Then she sighed and told me that it didn't mean PUNCH the dough, but to PRESS the dough to get the air bubbles out. Now, that's just something!
For you recipe makers out there, if you print in your recipes to Punch anything, you know us guys who have learned to follow orders from their wives will happily try to Punch its lights out! Anyway, the air is out and in the oven well punched.
