Only for the journal! Yet again it has happened, I work very hard limited calories exercise at least an hour moderate or 45 min intense every day. Eat no sugar drink no soda or juice and I manage to put on 5lbs overnight? Like hello!! It is crazy to think it. But with my longtime weight recording, I begin to see this nearly always happens around the 10lbs drop mark! I seem to stall and despite continuous good behaviour, it nearly always seems to happen that just as I begin to see some results on the scales there's some unexplainable calorie gain! I'm at 30/20% under RDI not including exercise -plus I usually overestimate calorie intake to avoid success bias. So this gain is impossible literally in objective terms. But then our bodies are not machines, they will behave in unpredictable ways at times. I am trying not to jump off the bandwagon and keep on as before. Because after such dedication, it can seem like a slap in the face? But perhaps that is the psychology behind this physiological phenomenon. Our bodies, perhaps would like an easier time of it with plenty, rather than frugality and efficiency. I am hoping I can keep going through this impasse!! How will we manage when the evidence does not add up?? So hard :(

i always gain weight after hard exercise. it must be water swelling to repair muscle. it corrects itself in few days.

I agree, it could be the muscle or swelling. I'd recommend measuring your arms thighs stomach etc, you may see more difference there.

speaking from experience as you are exercising a lot make sure you are getting enough calories as if your body gets too little it will go into a starvation mode and store any calories it can for later to protect itself. it happend to me. try upping calorie intake a bit or every other day eat a bit more for couple of wreks and see if makes any difference. also I agree with guys I also gain after hard exercise. . must be water retention. hope you find a fix xxx

Just wondering, if this happens to you regularly, are you getting enough protein relative to fats? If you're limiting calories but exercising a lot, you'll probably need to pay attention to getting enough protein and other nutrients or your body will probably go into starvation mode as Jersey_di1 said.

You may be gaining some muscle

Thank you guys all so much for your comments. All really helpful thoughts. Looking at it, I did some measuring. There may be some glute and bicep muscle gain. Plus my protein intakes seem on the lower level, when looking at training articles. I probably need to double that which I will find very tough. So could be some water retention also on the back of that. I actually did a fast day to see if I could shock it. I got in around 526cals, 2litres of water and only light exercise .. and I am actually down 8lbs this morning. But I will beef up today a bit to try to avoid metabolism stall. Fingers crossed. Its not a science is it??

It sound like you gained muscle which is good as muscle burns more calories...
