I got out my sewing machine to take some darts and tucks. This has allowed me to wear clothes that would otherwise be too big. I even took in the waist band of some jeans, just to get me through. I did eventually buy some basic jeans in smaller sizes, but these are getting baggy too. I even scored at the Salvation Army store! Wear a few well-fitting things until you get there, then have some fun shopping!

Having special clothes that have been a part of your past and hold memories is a wonderful reminder. Unfortunately, when they don't fit anymore it's time to let most of them go. On the other hand I still have my "little black dress" from our honeymoon that is still hanging in my closet waiting for me to get back into it. We saw Phantom of the Opera in San Francisco in it 21 years ago :-) A sewing machine is a great option. If you don't have one perhaps one of your local friends would help you take your clothes in? I have some cute NEW clothes I'm already seeing are going to be too big so I can feel your pain!

I'm very thankful for my awesome second hand store. I score a lot there. Name brand clothes that look new & some with the tags still on for dirt cheap! Congrats to you!

Perhaps your area has a consignment store where you can sell your wonderful but too big clothes and pick up some new wonderful clothes that fit. Take pictures of your clothes that you will be selling, and (per the KonMari method of organization) thank them for their service.

If you have a few things that are really special to you, look into having them altered.

ok buddy seems if you want those cloths so bad you will have to gain the weight back LOL....or just consider the new you and buy a few again that fit...i have the same problem and still losing weight so if i buy now what about later...i don't look good wearing double and triple x clothes, one x is what i use now. but this is not a perfect world we live in...the old saying goes "you can you have your cake and eat it too". I for one is glad to get rid of my fat clothes. congratulations on your loss

I agree with Bonnybelle - pick the clothes that you really love and have them made smaller so they fit well.

I went thru the same thing. Bought one pair of 6 Levi's and the rest workout clothes. The rest I just took out of my closet and boy I couldn't believe the size 10, and 12,s I had! I am sending them to my mom for a yard sale. The rest of my clothes I have been wearing. Sweats, sweaters, tanks... It's expensive but so is the new life! I'm holding on to a pair of old pants bc I just can't believe I used to fit them. It's a smh moment.

Cat, I too go to the thrift store. I found a brand new tank that says I don't sweat I Sparkle and it's made by chin up. Hahahaha right up my alley! 2.99

Of all the problems to have. lol

Having them altered is a great idea! I have been taking in my dresses....I love wearing dresses in the summer-time they are so cool and comfortable! I drug my sewing machine out did a little measuring, ran a few seams, did some cutting...and voila...my boobs once again fill out the tops correctly, the clingy ones actually cling again and the A-lines once again flatter my shape instead of making me look like I am wearing a potato sack :). Some of the fabrics were too delicate for my heavy handed stitching so I will be taking them to a tailor to be reduced. I love chiffon, but it resists my attempts to sew it!

So true. But my problem isn't clothes NOT fitting. Its that they STILL fit after losing 80+ pounds. DAMNED ELASTIC WAISTBAND UNIFORMS!!!!! The pants at least. I do need new shirts. I feel like im wearing tents for shirts.

You lost me at corset ;-) ok..ok....in all seriousness, something like "Plato's Closet" should help.

Simple solution. Give that old shiznit away. Put together a minimalist wardrobe that will get you through the summer. I August, when you hit goal, make hubby buy you a whole new wardrobe. #womansperogative

Yep, clear up some room when I get them out of my closet. Just use a minimalist wardrobe and alter what can be altered. I will enjoy every minute of it!

Google thredup. I've made a couple hundred bucks selling my very nice but too large clothes. They are the easiest site to deal with, but you get less cash for your stuff.

I will donate my too large clothes to Teen Challenge - it's a recovery program for drug, alcohohol or other life issues program. They have a "Blessings" closet for the young women who have nothing to "shop" in for free. My daughter works in the ministry and it's absolutely amazing the lives that are changed!

I went through this last year. I altered the clothes I could, and donated the rest to a mission. Women there will be able to buy nice clothes for a fraction of the original cost. We all know how expensive nice clothes are. In the meantime, I've gotten a couple of pieces and filling out the rest with walmart until I can get the 40 pounds I put back on off.
