Corn now seems to be a problem too. I just read a bit and learned that a protein in it can affect the systems of some G-intolerant. Argh. For any kind of starchy carb (apart from potatoes), this leaves me with only quinoa, rice, and oats. I don't much like quinoa, and am bored of it, and can tolerate rice and oatmeal, but they don't really fuel me. Potatoes and sweet potatoes really fuel me. Good to know that now but I am just so limited! Annoyed. I love all things corn: tortillas, tortilla chips, polenta, an awesome F-free pasta I just found (Barilla). I like fruits, vegetables, and nuts the most, but this is a hassle. Okay, complaining over.

Have you talked to a doctor or at least a dietitian about these food issues?

'Gluten free on a shoestring' (Nicole Hunn. Amazon) has some great recipes for pasta, etc that my celiac boys love as well as flour tortilla. You have every right to complain, it stinks. And it's expensive. And an all around Pain in the @ss.

IC: No. Nicholaix: Thanks but I'm embarrassed to complain about anything related to food. It can be expensive but I feel blessed in that regard. So many people go without. I'm a busy person but I make my own schedule most days and so I can shop after my morning run, eat fresh, try new things. I really should have a tighter grocery budget, but I feel really fortunate.

I liked discovering new grains and cooking them in unique ways. My new fave is millet. There are also Black bean tortilla chips (as in made of black beans) so you can still have unconventional chips and salsa. Enjoy!

Try quinoa cooked in meat or vegetable broth, dried chopped onions and dried parsley flakes (or herbs). Or boil it soft and sweeten it for breakfast. Same treatments with rice and wild rice for diff texture. I've also done rice in coconut milk to go with curried proteins. It was pretty good and takes away some of the monotony. Any other heritage grains like pearl barley on your list. Don't forget those. Also check out http://www.nytimesDOTcom/2015/03/18/dining/ancient-grains-are-new-again.html?_r=0

Whole barley, amaranth, spelt, multiple kinds of rice, wild rice, use flours made from garbanzo beans, coconut, sorghum is another yummy grain though a bit higher in calories. There are more grains than you think if you look.

I know you are feeling like there is TONS you can't eat but really the trick is to think about the Tons of things you can eat. You might be pleasantly surprised when you try some new stuff and find some new favorites. Our household is gluten free, dairy free, and vegan/vegetarian ( and one meat eater who is trying to bring us to the other side lol)and we still find tons of variety. Focus on how good your body feels and performs when its getting the fuel it needs.
