I get yelled at by the low-fat people because I don't do skim milk (like it exactly the way it comes out of the cow - raw and with all the cream) and never throw away an egg yolk. The low-carb people are also upset with me because I actually eat terrible things like bread and rice. The numbers are back (I have to do annual medical monitoring because of my job and they check everything):

HDL: 79
LDL: 86
Triglycerides: 58
Fasting glucose: 72

The doc said, "Just keep doing what you've been doing. See you next year".

My twin, apparently :) I lean more to the low-fat side of things, and think Atkins is effective primarily because it ends up being a de facto low calorie diet, but I also don't feel the need to chow down on any more carbs than necessary, because, well, you don't need that many. I just try to eat no more than I need, exercise, and eat nutritious foods instead of sugar and processed junk. And low and behold, my numbers are great now too (we're almost identical, but you beat me on HDL - 79 is amazing!) Congratulations, it's a great feeling, isn't it :)

Thanks for dropping by, Nimm. What it really comes down to it, it is quite simple: eat real food. I think just doing that prevents me from getting TOO fat (have never fallen into the "overweight" category on the BMI chart) even when I over eat and become lazy. The body knows how to deal with real food and is quite good at telling me to stop. I do have an unfair advantage over many people as I get most of my food directly from a couple local farms during the summer/fall months. And thanks again, it does feel great to have numbers to "prove a point".

mdep- you don't have to prove anything to anyone! Great news on your dr's visit, and your test results! Do what works for YOU and makes you happy! (all that from an avid low carber! lol!!)

Hello jsfantome! I don't have issues with low-carb, it works well with some people. It is just that a few people who want to push low-carb and every time someone ask a question in the forum, they give their standard answer: eat more fat (never mind that fat is from a feedlot cow loaded with antibiotics), ditch the junk food and carbs (love it when they lump junk food and carbs all together).

You know your body best, and you have the nutritional background to figure out what your body wants and needs! You're actually the main person I credit for getting me to eat more real and healthy foods--I lost so much weight thanks to you!! *That's* my Fatsecret ;) As long as your levels are fine and your doctor doesn't see anything wrong with you, it sounds like you're doing exactly what you need to be doing

Oh, thank you, Tubbs! (Blush, blush, blush) ... I am so happy it works for you and I also hope that you enjoy the taste of real foods. Food, after all, should nourish both the body and the soul.
