My organization announced that they will be having lay offs over the next couple weeks. As you can imagine this is incredibly stressful for me and my family :( Normally i would not be worried, however, I am relatively new to the position and expendable (considering they will be on a hiring freeze).. Not to mention since im so new they would not have to pay unemployment. I have already began applying at multiple places to alleviate some of the stress, but just not knowing is definitely the hardest thing.

Panther, I am sorry to hear this. A lot of places are at hiring freezes now. Linked-In is a great way to network - I find a lot of job openings on there. I also use Career Builder and Indeed, both are job boards that are highly efficient and ones that most employers post to. If you want any help with your resume, private message me, I can help you. I've been in HR over a year, but I can help with formating and organizational things as well. Don't stress yet- and I don't know what the unemployment laws are in KY, but here in NJ, if we lay you off, we have to pay you.

Thank you very much for your support, today was promising at work.. Almost a sense of security, even if it is a false sense, it is helping me relax. I have been utilizing both indeed and career builder, hopefully, this Linked-in site helps as well. I feel fairly comfortable with my resume, however, a second opinion never hurts. I will chuck it over your way if things get any more disheartening around here. I don't know a whole lot about unemployment either, hopefully I wouldn't even need it if I have a job lined up already. I think here in KS if you are laid off, or fired in your probationary period (first year of employment) you don't get unemployment. I may be wrong though. I would go crazy if I was at home all day :( Anyways, thanks again for the help.

Fingers crossed that you end up in the clear! Its hard to remember when the economy was at least decent! In recent polls, Michigan was ranked last I believe for population growth b/c of how many people have moved out of state b/c of how bad it has gotten here. We're starting to see things pick up...slowly...very slowly...
