So, I have shin splints...this happens every time I try to start running. I didn't go for a run today, because I'm supposed to rest my legs. I did go for a short (2 mile) walk around my neighborhood. I've been icing my legs, and I got some tape, so I'll try taping my legs before my run tomorrow, and we'll see how that goes.

That can be bad stuff. How good are your running shoes? I was having major foot trouble- the insides were swelling up to the size of golf balls. I bought $100 New Balance running shoes and the problem was solved. It is essential to have a very high quality shoe. I hope you feel better; I know that is very painful.

I think I really need a new pair of shoes. I usually go to foot locker or Marshall's and buy what looks good to me, but I think I'm going to go to a running store and get a proper fitting.

I'm assuming you're warming up before your run...so does your pain start immediately when you run or after about a mile or so? I agree with the others about shoes, but would also like to add, how is your running form (leaning vs head up, over/under striding)and your foot planting (pronation)vs, what type shoe you use? For instance, if your foot planting is overpronation but you have shoes for normal pronation, it could affect your leg muscles and cause pain. Try a running store that can tell you what type pronation you are. It could be a simple matter of changing shoes or changing your running form. I never was a distance runner when I was younger so I actually had to learn how to run from scratch. I wish you well buddy.
