I'm still hurting, but I feel much better. I can't walk without the cane yet, but at least it's my new cute cane that goes with whatever I wear, and still looks stylish! lol. Maybe it's just a bad week. I went to work today, and just when I was getting ready to leave, I was taken into a meeting, to meet my new boss. I was also told that it had been brought to her attention that I was overheard badmouthing one of my co-workers in the break room last week! I have no idea what they are talking about. The person in question was actually one of my closest workmates...I don't get it at all. I don't bad mouth people at all, and I don't talk about people behind their backs! I go to work to get my work done, not to be the office gossip! I was deeply hurt that they would even think I would do that! Then my new boss proceded to give me a written warning! I wrote on the note that I didn't know anything about the day in question, but she said I had to sign the paper. I was so upset I was crying.
What a lousy day, what a lousy week.

OH my! I'm sorry you are in so much pain. I am so sorry. Oh my goodness.... I cannot STAND office gossip!! *bleck* *puke* *disgusting* I call BS. Absolutely crap. I'm so sorry about that. Hey girl, we have your back and screw the "man", you're better then that!! Head held high... Wish you get well soon buddy. Bummer about the written warning. I don't know the details, but it sounds kinda odd for your boss to give you a written warning based on what some one else said. ESPECIALLY if the boss is new and haven't yet fully grasp the chemistry or comradere of the work group...such as knowing those who people who try to get over on ya, those who complain a lot, those who dump their tasks on others, etc. In my experience dealing w/problem workers, a verbal warning is issued first (unless it's something grave like blatant sexual harrassment, racsim, threats, etc) before the written letter is issued. Was an HR rep in the meeting also as a witness? If not then inquire your HR dept (it may also be in your employee handbook) about your company's discpline procedures. At my company, you can go straight to HR without your boss's consent if you feel you've been unfairly discipline. Or we can also request an HR rep to sit in as a witness if we need to meet with superiors about unfair issues. Hang in there.

One thing I thought of later... when forced to sign something that you disagree with, sign it and add "in protest". Then, I would follow it up with a letter to be attached to it for your file. Don't let anyone bully you into something that you didn't do. Chin up and be strong, you'll get through this.

I agree with all of the above--and will add that you shouldn't take it personally. I know it's hard to do because it feels personal, but I have a feeling that it isn't personal. You said this disciplinary action was administered by a new boss--sometimes new management will find a person who does her job and is fairly well-liked by her peers then single her out for disciplinary action in order to send the message to the rest of her co-workers that certain behaviors will not be tolerated. It is definitely not fair, but it definitely happens. You may have been a victim of someone who is trying to establish herself as a tough boss. Glad you're feeling some better--maybe the pain and the work crap are all happening this week so that next week can be wonderful!
