Feeling 100% despondent.

My trainer told me this afternoon that she doesn't think I should run. At all. Ever. It's been almost a week and my knee pain (both knees) has not subsided at all, despite rehab, rest, ice, anti-inflammatory gels, anti-inflammatory pills, etc.

Next Saturday (2 Feb) my husband is doing his first ever 10km, without me. He was never even interested in running, I pushed him into it and now he gets to do what I dreamed of doing. Ugh.

My only hope now is that seeing the Dr tomorrow sheds some light on the situation and illuminates the cause of the pain so that I can move on from here and, God-willing, get back to running.

Im a runner, when I started I used to have knee pains, 1. I got the correct running shoes. 2. I changed my running style( I researched about running styles and watched a lot of YouTube Vidz) Im now training for my first Ultra Marathon which is just in 13 days.. I don’t have a trainer and never had one...

Hi Sinoza! Wow... That's brilliant progress! 😀 I saw my doc on Friday and she is almost certain my ligaments are weak/lazy and recommended I see a sports physio and start a strict rehab & strengthening program. Had ridiculous inflammation until this morning - today is the first day in about 8 days that I don't have crippling pain. I like what you say about running style - I know my sedentary lifestyle and desk job are doing me no favors and only lead to poor form and terrible technique... Thinking of getting help from a biokineticist at some point if I still experience problems once the physio gives me the green light to start training again. Do you take any supplements? Joint support etc?

I use Anirca gel to rub my legs, bath in Epsom salts, I use Endurade sports drink during my runs and eat Future life/Oats before my runs... Do Squats and lunges also they help...

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I went from doing nothing to running as hard as I could for a few days in a row and the pain in my knees was crazy. It felt like they were going to fold backwards. I didn’t think I was even going to make it walking home and I was convinced that I was going to need an operation or something (I’m not a hypochondriac, it was just THAT painful). Turned out to be from weak muscles in my thighs, because they somehow support the muscles in and around the knee. I was completely out from running for about a month to a month and a half, but in the time I did loads of squats and lunges and took the first run back slowly and I haven’t had that problem again since then. No operation needed.

Pamels, that's amazing!! I must be honest, I was convinced I'd done serious damage! Fortunately the pain subsided after around 10 days, and I'm doing proper rehab now. You know what's getting me the most? My outer thighs, my super tight hip flexors, my very wobbly ankles and.... Probably the worst of all: my lazy, lazy arches! I can't wait to (slowly) get back into running again 😁 Maybe meet some of you lovely runners at an event some day!
