Instant Awakening, part 13

Self talk.

I used to talk to myself in my head,

you know, most of it negative,
I’d call myself an idiot

for missing a turn while driving,

Or hitting my thumb with a hammer instead of a nail,

didn’t produce kind words for myself.

I was not all that conscious I was doing this.

Just did it automatically.

Beating myself up all the time
for little mistakes.

Well, we all make mistakes,

reason for the backspace key on the computer…
We are all human.

I leaned about this from my first therapist,
also there are 3 phrases to remove from by vocabulary;

“Shoulds”, “If Only”, and “What if”.

we have NO power with any of those,
using them and negative self talk,
DIS-empowers us.

So, I just started paying attention to what I said to myself.

Noticed when it’s negative, and stopped doing that.

Didn’t beat myself up for it either.
