I've been eating a deficit of at least 1500kj a day for more than a month yet my weight has not changed at all. What's the deal? I eat a very balanced diet and never eat junk. I've even been working out at the gym lately and that hasn't done anything either. This has convinced me that more calories burned than consumed is not the simple answer. There is a lot more to it than that. What are your thoughts fellow fat fighters?

I have been doing a lot of research and I think it comes down to where your calories are coming from.. carb : protein : fat ratio. Most recommend around slow carbs20:50:30.drnk lots of water and only good fats and

I would also recommend HIIT. short bursts of high intensity cardio. It has a longer lasting fat burning quality. eg. Flat out for 30-60 seconds slow for 30-60 seconds for 20-30 minutes

40kg sounds very light. What is the recommended weight for your height and age.

You may have to adjust your diet accordingly. Though you may be in a caloric deficit, the foods you eat may need to be swapped for something else.

also take into account what you drink, and yes - exercise is the key to losing weight

oh, dont aim for 40kg - that is anorexia. That is a mental health disorder, not healthy at all for your body or your brain. See a doctor. Once you are dead then you will have no weight, if that is what you are aiming for

I just saw your photo. you are definitely not overweight. At 40 kg you will be ANOREXIC. Don't do it. My sisters both did it and they are very sick in the head and body. They look old like grandmas.

Gee Emily. I'm no expert but isn't 40kg getting a bit on the light side? Might be worth checking in with a doctor and just getting them to give you an ideal weight for your height age etc. If they say 40kgs is okay then more power to you but I have a funny feeling you might be going at it a little too hard?

Hi Emily. While I tend to agree that 40kg is really low, I also sympathise with you, because I am around 5 foot and as you get older, you don't want to gain too much weight. Having a look at your diet, I think you need to increase your protein sources and try to reduce the percentage of carbohydrates in your calories. Crazy as it might sound, you need to eat around 1200 calories to be healthy and for your body to make the enzymes, proteins and hormones needed to metabolise fat. The amount of energy needed to lose weight is really important. Try to replace the bready type things, sandwiches and snacks with as much veg and leans meats as you can. Of course, check with your doctor if you are concerned. I disagree about the excercise thing. Be active, but beating yourself up is probably more damaging. I was around your weight when I was your age. Now I am overweight from age and metabolic/hormonal/medication issues. Be healthy and happy. You are gorgeous already. Just tweek it a bit. :)

Maybe your body is telling you, you have nothing to lose you are at a healthy weight. You look fine in your picture. Skinny is not attractive but FIT IS. Eat healthy food and keep going to the gym. The gym workouts are what is going to give you a good looking body. I assume that is what you want. Skinny is not the answer fit and curvy is a much nicer look. You look beautiful in your photo and you should be proud that you take good care of your health by eating right and exercising do that and the rest will just happen, you will also reap the benefits later in life if you do this as a life style to stay healthy and fit. Try not to put so much emphasis on losing weight in a hurry. Make sure you eat the calories you need if you are going to the gym and stay away from the junk and the sweet drinks especially diet drinks and sports drinks they definitely won't help, stick to water and green teas. Coffee ok.

Wow. I did not expect so many lovely comments. No one has ever told me such nice things. This community is really amazing. Honestly got a little teary reading what you have said. I now realise that my goal weight was very unrealistic and unhealthy. I did get a warning from the app that the weight was too low but I figured because I'm small it wouldn't hurt. You've told me better. I'm going to keep going to the gym and start eating more protein. Really, thank you all so much. I will continue to update my progress here x.

Reading this thread of comments makes me really happy, good on you Emily! Sounds like you are really taking care of your physical and mental health and that's super awesome. It's really cool having a good community to give sound advice isn't it? One other thing to be aware of is if you are going to the gym you may even gain weight because you will be building muscle, but your body fat percentage will stay the same or decrease. That's actually a really good thing and will make you look better and feel better :)

If anyone ever says that you are fat then they are just trying to be bitchy because you are not fat - maybe they want you to become sick and skinny. Stand strong and be healthy. Also help other people to be fit and healthy. I am the 5'1" and i am fit and healthy at 54kg. I won a marathon. :)

Oh Anna that is wonderful. It is harder, I think, when your frame is small. Weight seems to show a lot and we can panic. 54kg is perfect for 5'1"! Yay for you. Emily really does not need to lose much on the BMI scale. I used to be to be around 57kg at that age. It feels nice and light and fit when you are young and small.
