Hello my dear friends. Just to let you know I am still here and checking FS daily. I have been eating carbs, and I intrigued that I am eating it like there is no tomorrow. Bread (French) and whole milk. Honey...I cannot get enough of those. I think it is a taste of childhood...There must be some psychological explanation. I am eating that with abandon...I guess it is a comfort zone. After Memorial Day I am surely fully back on diet....before I go back up all the way to where I started. Wishing everyone a wonderful, inspired day!

Linda, People do eat carbs on Atkins. It is all in the greens, allowed fruit, nuts, etc. Even eggs have carbs. It is not like I am not eating carbs. For the moment, I am eating A LOT of them though...and I feel it. On carbs I do not feel good physically. I feel happy for a moment, but overall I feel bloated and out of control. Portion control is not my forte :-)...it just does not happen, unfortunately. Thank you for writing back and giving me some encouragement. I needed it.

Sounds like you are "carb craving". It happens when your addiction -- and it is an addiction -- to carbs & sugars is beginning to lessen and come under your control. Your body physically reacts by making you insatiably hungry for carb-heavy & sugary foods. Boy, oh, boy -- it can hit you like a rocket and you don't even realize you are out of control with the carbs for days. The craving goes away once you bounce back up in weight or you take control of your diet again. I've trained myself to be alert to carb craving now and haven't had one in several months. Carb craving is real...another late in life lesson for me.

I fully understand carb craving...it is all I can do at times not to give in. I have been known to simply sit on my hands if all else fails. I'll be here to cheer you on when you come back. And by the way, knowing and admitting that you are not on target is very important.

I know it sounds extreme and unfair to the rest of the household, but the easiest way to avoid the temptation is to purge your kitchen pantry and fridge of all the bad carbs. On Atkins I've lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks just by throwing out bread, rice, pasta, etc.

Whenever I crave carbs I go and cut a slice from a stick of butter, about 1/2 tbsp sized, and eat it. No more cravings. Also, I use a lot of the low-carb flours from netrition.com and can afford to have pancakes, low carb bread, etc from time to time. It's all about willpower and how to manipulate your body to think you're giving it what it craves. Otherwise, if you don't stick to your guns, in the end, you'd have put yourself through hell for weeks in a row for nothing, really, as you'll get right back on all those lbs you worked so hard to lose.

Just an FYI if you crave the taste of milk I found Kroger brand makes a REDUCED SUGAR NONFAT MILK CALLED CARBMASTER...11GM protein per 8 oz and 3gm carb..i like it and I used to live on fresh off the dairy bulk tank milk!! just a thought. I believe it comes in chocolate flavor too...don't know the counts on that tho.

Thank you for all the suggestions and support. I think I am ready to get back on the diet. I will probably go through a detox type of phase. I have to be strong in the evening, when I get home. That is the hardest. I am ok morning and lunch. Talk to all of you soon.

The evening is my hardest time too. I know what it is like to crave those flavors you listed, bread and whole milk. I have been having a yogurt parfait for breakfast, which satisfies a lot of that craving, but I can have a little more because I am on lifetime maintenance.
