After a(nother) break from logging and doing what I should be doing taking another crack at getting in shape. Weight has drifted under 300, but slowly. Still hoping to take the next 6 months to get back to close to where I was 3 years ago. That would mean losing 50+ pounds and serious exercise. Goal remains being in solid enough shape by end of summer to take a crack at the Marshman triathlon that I missed in Sept, 2017. To start running would need to drop 35-40 pounds or my knees would be at risk. But, I can start swimming and hitting a treadmill/walking now. Current weight is 15 pounds above the start of the pandemic and 28 pounds above my 2019 lows. Time to get at it.

Nutrition was good yesterday, but once again I didn't make it to the gym. I'm not going to succeed unless I force myself to go and burn that minimum 400 calories 3x/week.
But, it was another day of good nutrition so I'll take that as a silver lining. That's five days in a row of being good - I was always told that to make something a habit you need to do it for a month straight. So, one day at a time until I'm there.
No regrets, I'll just have to workout today.

Had a super protein day yesterday and had my first supervised workout of the New Year. The workout was good - still some pain points, right shoulder and right quad/IT band (aka thigh) - but they were a lot quieter than the week before. A bit nauseous, but nothing like the week before when my diet largely consisted of Christmas cookies.
Still getting fatigued much too early, but I'm just getting used to working out again and I'm still carrying 19 pandemic pounds (plus, 40 pounds from being a slacker the two years before the world went to hell). Trying to be very aggressive the next couple weeks to crash off as much weight as I can without feeling like I'm a crack addict going cold turkey. That translates to 1000-1300 calories with a lot of protein, no empty carbs.
Because I was working out yesterday, I upped the calorie total from 1300ish to 1700. That's still 400 calories below the goal calories once I go from crash mode to get fit mode.
Where I'm slacking is water intake - that's improved because I'm forcing myself to pound 24 oz of fluid every night, but I'm still missing target by 30-40 oz daily. I've also been terrible about working out other than when I'm meeting up with people two days per week. I've got to start doing something...anything on my own even if it is just a quick stint taking a walk or getting on an elliptical for a quick workout. To get where I want to go, I need to add in 3+ workouts (even if light) per week on my own.

Continued being disciplined with my nutrition yesterday.
In mid-December, I had laid out a really comprehensive plan for not just losing the weight that I've put on in the past 3 1/2 years, but also to get myself gym rat fit which was where I was headed until mid 2017 (life goals - be able to run 5 miles, swim 2 miles, bike 50 miles, do a true pullup). The goals are about double where I was in 2017 (run just shy of 3 miles, swim a mile, biked 20 miles and still feeling good, etc).
I immediately began ignoring the plan to enjoy "Body by Christmas Cookie" in a haze of post-Thanksgiving empty carbs and fat. The climax is always Nicole/Genevieve New Year's tradition of sushi, lobster, cookies and Swedish fish while watching the Shining. It's a strange tradition, but it is now home. We had a Covid exposure scare, so my daughter didn't join us which was disappointing but the three of us who were there had a great evening.
The downside of going rogue since Thanksgiving was that I literally could sense my handles getting bigger over the past month and a half.
Between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, I managed to put on another six (6) pounds and my weight shot up to 307.8. That's 66 pounds heavier than I had been in May, 2017 when I ran my last mud run (241).
Over the past four days, I've cut my calories well below target and cut carbs down to a very manageable level. In doing so, I've dropped 5 1/2 pounds which I'm guessing is mainly made up of water and Nicole's ruggaleh and butter cookies (so freaking good....).
Maintaining my calories at between 1100-1300 is not sustainable. Especially, if I do what I'm supposed to and I'm working out 5-6x per week. At my size (6'2" large frame, age of almost 56 (Jeezus, I got old)) my body is supposed to burn 2500+ calories per day, just breathing.
However, I'm going to try to keep things low until I get myself to where I was before the March lock down (282). Goal after that is my August, 2019 low weight (269).
As I up water content and exercise my metabolism should start moving out of glacial three toed sloth speed to something higher. That will help, but dropping my calories too low will cause the metabolism to slow down. To avoid that, I have to be good about drinking a boatload of water and working out.
And the discipline to do that has been scarce for a long time.
Well, Happy Effing New Year - everyday is a new beginning and a chance to get things right. Time to start pounding h20.
