I have been thin and fit all my life up until 7 years ago after the birth of my third child at 40 years old. I have lost weight only to gain it back. Been like a crazy see-saw in my weight. It seems to come on a whole easier than comes off. Metabolism of getting older...I don't know but something about being pregnant at 40 change my whole body. I have achieved to stay at a size 8 and not get any smaller. About two months, I started a regiment fitness program and hurt a muscle in hip only frustratingly delaying my weight loss goals. However, now that I am mostly healed getting right back into it. My advice to anyone entering into exercise program: be consistent, take it slow and build up (unlike me or end up injured), and must have some type of weight training. I have achieved more weight loss with free weights three days a week for about 20 to 30 minutes then mix in three days a week with cardio. I had friends tell me this and was like yeah,yeah then I finally tried. Yes, they were right. Before my injury found a great all over body conditioning class (no not boot camp) which I got results. Always mix it up as your body has muscle memory. For example, do Yoga and Zumba one week and run and bike the next week. Also, do not do the same free weight routine each time. Mix that up.
