I am a software architect in Seattle, WA (although originally from a small farming community in rural Ontario, Canada). Been overweight for most of my life except for a short period of time when I lived in Thailand for a year and managed to unintentionally lose something like 70lbs. I had been holding steady at 29x for a few years, but my weight jumped up into the 300s and I decided it was time to do something about it in 2011 when I joined Fatsecret.

I started with a pretty basic low-carb diet and added in some exercise along the way. My first goal was to reach 250lbs by December 1st (which I hit on October 27, 2001). My second goal was to hit 220lbs by February 14th, 2012 (which I hit on January 3rd, 2012). My next goal was to hit 200lbs by the end of March (which I hit on February 29th, 2012lbs). Finally, my goal was to continue to slowly lose another 30lbs to reach a final weight of 170lbs which I hit on May 30, 2012).

I kept the weight off for a number of years by continuing to eat low carb. I also got to complete some pretty awesome physical challenges like competing in the Seattle to Portland bike race and running the Vancouver Marathon. But the problem with competing in events like this is that it necessitates eating off-plan. During lockdown I continued to eat (and drink) off-plan and gain a lot of weight back. I needed to get things back on track.

By eating on plan and cutting out alcohol I managed to shed 61lbs in 225 days to reach my goal weight of 175lbs (normal BMI). Next step -- put a bit more of a buffer in place (I am thinking 165lbs) and then start the maintenance phase!
