My first visitors of the summer season are due today from England and I'm still at work. As it's their first visit as a family I wanted everything to be perfect but serious time constraints caused by bad weather through the spring mean that I haven't done everything I hoped to. Anyway, their room is ready and I'm sure they won't notice any omissions - perfectionism is my problem :)
I have permission to leave work early today so I should be home just about an hour before they arrive, enough to tidy up if the girls have made a mess and to make a jug of lemonade and a tray of muffins.
I did most of the work for tonight's dinner last night, I made a kind of risotto using basmati rice and lots of grated vegetables, courgettes and carrots, a little parmesan and chopped dill. That's setting in a ring mould in the fridge so I'll turn it out and cut slices. Potatoes peeled for a warm potato salad so just the potatoes to cook and kofte to grill and we'll be ready. Maybe a green salad, too and some cherries for dessert. Quite easy and quick, I hope, and something to please everyone.
Rika, our cat, is still pacing and waiting. I moved her "birthing bed" - a huge cardboard box with old towels and some of her toys - up to our room which is in the attic so that she can find a place undisturbed by small children when she needs to.
