I feel like Forrest Gump today... I guess I was carrying a lot of stress and anxiety over a potential promotion I had applied for back in March. I was feeling confident going in... but in the end, I won't even get an interview... huge disappointment. What did I do? Drove home for an hour in traffic mulling it over. Got home and saw my running gear so I decided to run to take my mind off of it and burn up what was no doubt a lot of stored cortisol.
RUN CKWORKSALOT, RUN!
Decided today would be my long run instead of this weekend, and just set out on a slow leisurely pace taking in the neighborhood sights. With no course mapped out, I just ran and ran, thinking I might get lucky and hit 5 miles. 30 minutes in my wife called and I answered the phone without stopping and was able to carry on a conversation. Heart rate averaged 145 BPM the whole time. After a while longer I checked my mapmyrun app and I had already surpassed 5 miles so I just kept chugging along. At 6 miles I was still feeling good both lung-wise and leg-wise, and realized at 6.2 miles "I will complete my first 10K!" 1:11:59 is my new baseline! But I was not done! So I pressed on and ultimately stopped at 7 miles total, not because I was tired, but I did not want to risk overdoing it. A personal best for me! Not bad for a guy with 5 coronary bypasses! SO LONG CORTISOL!
