I've never really paid too much attention to how much sugar I consumed, I just ate my calories per day, and then stopped eating. Well with MFP (my fitness pal) suggesting a level of sugar, it's making me watch that and I'm seeing my level of sugar seems to be above the recommended amount.

My MFP suggested amount is 29g per day. I don't know how I would do that?! While I do eat processed foods, even if I had an apple a day, that's like 25g of sugar out the window!

How many grams of sugar do you guys consume? If you've got your consumption under 50g per day, how do you do it?

10-20g of sugar based on FS, regular days around 10-13g, cheating days as high as 27g. I guess eating clean and treat fruit like treats. I think it will make a hugh difference for you, Brandy girl.

I've looked at my sugar intake, which is also high, but there's a lot of inconsistency in the recommendations as to whether they mean all sugars or added sugars. Like the apple, nonfat milk has a lot of "sugars" but I see both of those as vastly different from the sugar in a chocolate chip cookie. Personally, I've come to the conclusion that I'll keep an eye on it but not stress it. I'm naturally scaling back my added sugars over time and if I try to be more stringent, it will probably be increased used of artificially sweeteners which isn't ideal either. I've found that it's just not feasible to monitor everything so I pick my battles- focusing on protein and total cals while doing all my own cooking (and thus reducing processed foods) has worked for me so far and I'm not going to worry about fixing what isn't broken.

I've never tracked my sugar either. Your mention is the first I'm looking at it and I've gone back through my food diary to the spring. Comparing foods, processed foods seem to have the most sugar, but you're right. When I compare my foods, especially my recipes, my bell peppers are higher than greens and apple and sweet potato are high. And Nat's right, the nonfat milk is high. Guess the foods higher in sugar should eaten in lower quantities. Maybe Leslie (Hermiones mom) will weigh in (on the topic). She follows a low glycemic diet, so she does this intentionally.
