I had a 2-litre bottle of sugar-free lemonade yesterday and I think that is why I ate so much cheese/black olives towards the end of the day. I was eating quite obsessively. Lesson learned. No diet drinks in the future.

Seemingly, diet drinks spike the insulin levels the same as sugar, until such time as the body realises it isn't sugar and lowers them again.

I drink diet lemonade and Coke every single day ...you can't blame your drink for over indulgence. Every food, including straight protein, spikes insulin levels...that's what the body is designed to do. However aspartame does not. It may affect different pathways in the brain for some people reducing your inhibitions but there is no scientific evidence to support the theory that a sweet taste without sugars spikes insulin in humans ... http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=7921865

I agree with that. The tests were carried out on rats.
