Spike day
Tivo-d the football game and stayed up waaaaay late watching. Did some noshing during the game and wound up with my highest caloric day in forever. How is it that every time I do that, I wind up with my best weigh in of the week the following morning? Im a true beleiver in the spike day. Its a reward for the dilligence during the week and it makes us feel not deprived. I think our bodies respond favorably to it.
I would just warn, noy t to get into some rationalizing mind set of..."Well, maybe I should do this 3 or 4 days a week!" Nope, its all about the average. Thanks for listening to me ramble people!

Curious, what do you eat the other 6 days? I tried the spike thing and it didn't out very well. Of course, those extra drinks don't really help either though. :) This week, I went back to Induction (Atkins), and then after my 2 week period, I think I think I will slowly add the spike/cheat day back.

Mike - This is your journal - you write anything you want. Funny how everbody is so different. When I "spike" I have a food hangover the next day and it takes about 3 days to get back to normal.

what do you eat on a spike day? still healthy but add more calories?

Adelinmf / stacy: It all depends really. Usually something like Pizza or stuff that I wont eat every day (like I used to hee hee) Sometimes it is simply MORE fairly healthy stuff. It really depends. I try to love what I eat and mostly make my own food...I just make a lot of it and freeze it for work portions. Often, a spike day involves eating out. It doesnt make senese to me to pay 80 bucks at a restaurant to eat what I would eat at home you know? And I dont always "plan" the day, as in, "Saturday will be spike day!" its usually sponatanious, and its usually a day where I am up late, out with freinds or something. Just so the everage is good at the end of the week. Id love to sy that I eeat like a large pizza every saturday, but I dont think I have it in me anymore, and I dont thhink thats a bad thing!! (like my typing is!!) Peace

Oh sorry Adelinmf , I mis read! I pre make a bunch of breakfast sandwiches and freeze them. I also stock my work fridge with lean cold cuts or pre made wraps. I eat a lot of salad every day with lunch, and wraps and stuff like that. Dinner/ Home cooked, chicken, beef or seafod and I keep my sides measured. Always include veggies. Snacks, skinny cow or cottage cheese with mango. In my fidge now I have frozen by serving sizes: Spaghetti with turkey pasta sauce, sweet and sour grilled chicken and veggies, breakfast sandwiches and burritos (egg beaters, turkey bacon etc) and these effing AWESOME roast beef, sauteed onion, mushrrom wraps that I invented last night. (300 cals each) I LOVE to cook so its fun for me getting all of this ready even though I am busy as hell most of the time. I put on my IPD and cook into the night! My key is: KNOW what I am eating, stay away from drive throughs and fast food. Hope that helps.

ok so if you have a spike day do your calories for the whole week have to even out? I mean the spike day is a high calorie day so the rest of your days have to be short on calories to make up for it?

Interesting. So you don't really follow any certain diet during the week, and just increase your calories on your spike day. As I recall, the Spike diet says that your calories on your regular days should be no more than your RMR/BMR and on the Spike day to double it? Is this what you do or have you modified it? There are a couple of other diets similar to this concept - The Cheater's Diet and the The Four Hour Body. The Cheater's Diet says to follow whatever diet you are on, lo carb, lo cal, etc and on the weekends to add 10 cal/ lb of body weight to your normal calories, and the other gives a very specific list of things you can eat during the week and no holds barred on the cheat day.

I dont follow any diet with a name. I just call it a spike day because I let my calories "spike" that day. Kind of a misnomer I guess. No, I am all about portion control, eating real food and getting more exercise than I used to. Less intake plus more out put equals weight loss....the old tried and true. What I do probably resembles the "cheaters"

Stacy, sort of. I try to keep my cals at around 1800 all week. my RDI on this site is 2500, but more realistically 2000. On my "spike" days I really only go around 2000, very seldom over. I dont go hog wild or anything. As I wrote before My general rule is less intake and more output.

I forgot to add that if I do a lot of exercise I am generally more hungry, like today I burned around 800 extra cals through walking and running, so Ill probably eat more than 1800...because I earned it! hee hee
