6 month post heart bypass cardiologist visit. Doc took me off 80 mg Lipitor (liver enzyme elevated more than 4X) and all post op blood pressure meds 2.5 months ago, so this was to see the effects. Chloresterol went from 140 to 224??? Not understanding as I have eaten very clean 95% of the time and the 5% is not an overindulgence but stays within my cal budget. USDA recommends limit of 300mg per day. I average under 200mg per day. Good HDL still holding at 57. Liver enzyme normal again. BP normal. He wants me on 20mg lipitor now, not for chloresteril level he says, but because he does not want to risk bypasses clogging. He has had patients with 170 mg chl readings still have heart attacks. Any cardiologist out there care to comment? I would prefer not to take anything.
