Breaking fast today with bone broth around noon, then liver and onions a couple hours later. Liver has been soaking in buttermilk all night. Have been dreaming about it for days 😅 Hubby won't eat it, so I will be eating it all weekend. Also, raspberries are ripening in the yard, so will be eating those. Fasting is going well. No muscle cramps or headache. Not supplementing with any salts or electrolytes, just drinking water to thirst and letting my kidneys balance everything out. Much gratitude to my fasting buddies ❤ Shout out to YOH, who suggested logging my "off track" meals ahead of eating them. I was thinking of eating a big bowl of something crunchy from the grain family and logged 800 kcal. Um, no thanks. Delete, delete, delete 😆

YOH, your immune system actually regenerates too. Too many MARVILOUS things happen to even begin to mention. Look it up.

29p2, I burned the onions but I can totally eat my own bad cooking 😅 I fried up 4 big pieces and ended up eating 2 2/3 pieces. Refrigerated the rest. Will cook up the balance of fresh liver tomorrow.

So do you literally have nothing but water for 7 days? That seems like might be dangerous to me?
2023년 06월 30일 작성이: Yearofhealth2023
I drink black coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day. Some people drink green tea, or have ACV in water, or consume a little salt or coconut oil, or MCT oil, or an electrolyte supplement. I think if I were a type I diabetic, a type II diabetic on oral hypoglycemics or insulin, anorexic, pregnant, or a growing child, an extended fast would be unsafe. I think I can safely manage this without doctor supervision. If I become nauseated, lightheaded, or develop muscle cramps, I will end the fast early. I think it will be okay, though.

The longest fast I ever did was 10 days and it really was no big deal, but that was 7 years ago and my body and metabolism has changed. The worst part was day two usually, but now my day 2 is the ending of hunger. I have enough body fat % to fuel my survival for at least 8 months, if not 10. In the past, once I made it past day 2, I could go as far as I wanted and still feel great, ten days was as simple as 3. Somewhere along the way I forgot that, and I believe the stress I was under from life made it nearly impossible for me to complete a fast. I had no focus, no drive. It is a mind game and if you can't get the mind to co-operate for what ever reason, you get stuck. I'm very happy I'm not stuck anymore!

@Deb, good on you for being unstuck! 🙂 With the little experience I have had with it, I think day 2 is the hardest for me too, not only physically but mentally. You are so right! It IS a mind game! I start wanting to panic thinking I am going to die after about 48 hours 🤣 because of all of the indoctrination. Then, once that passes, I start worrying about refeeding syndrom.

So in the fasting is that meant to be a lifelong thing even once you reach your goal weight? And if so, is it to such extremes in terms of days or does it become something like 16:8?

@YOH Fasting has been around since the dawn of man. It has been implemented for religious reasons in many religions all around the world for many centuries. If you go back even further (think hunter/gather days), fasting was a natural way of life. People didn't have access to local Piggly Wiggly...lol. Dr. Fung says, "Jesus fasted for 40 days. Who are you going to listen to, him or Colonel Sanders?" 🤣😂😅 Whew... LOVE THAT MAN!!! As Lady mentioned, certain people shouldn't fast. It can be implemented whenever one wishes & stopped when they wish. The Guinness Book of world record fasting is 382 days.

YOH, I believe I need to commit to a restricted feeding window (16:8 or 18:6) as a permanent lifestyle change that also includes logging food and exercise. I won't include regular fasting once I get to goal weight, but will practice it as needed for post holiday and post vacation weight gain. In maintenance, as in weight loss, I need to repect my body enough to avoid binge eating, and be mindful of eating nutritious foods.

YOH, I think it depends on the individual, when I first lost the weight, I was maintaining well with minimal fasting, some folks lengthen the time between fasts as the get closer to goal weight. I'm part of a group on FB called The Fasting Method and there are folks there who are in maintenance and they will do an extended fast once a month or every three months, but they still practice eating only during a feeding window of 8 to 10 hours. The Extended fasts become more dangerous with the less body fat percentages you have. As a 40 year yo yo dieter I have lost lots of weight, the Keto and fasting has been the one that took me 6 years to gain it all back. I would attempt fasting the last few years, but failed to complete most of them. I quit keto and started eating a diet of one meal a day consisting of sandwiches and chips and dips or what ever I could cook without too much effort or thought. Meatloaf w/mac n cheese, chicken n rice, wings and fries. The carbs had me and were not turning loose.

I find I'm more successful with my eating plan when I log it first, then there is no guess work as to what to eat when I'm hungry.
2023년 06월 30일 작성이: lineruds
Lineruds I agree, I have been doing the same, getting ideas from the feed, checking my pantry and then planning my meals at least one day ahead. LOL I have to run to the computer to check and see what exactly I had planned before I start meal prep, because I forget.

Soooo ready for our fast. I'm just so tired of eating. I may start early.

Zenus, a 4 day fast will help you work up to the longer fast. I think it's a good idea!
