Dr Steven Gundry, Dr Sten Ekberg, Dr Andrew Huberman, Dr Mindy Pelz, Dr Jason Fung are a sampling of physicians that freely share facts about biology, microbiology, and physiology on YouTube. We no longer have to rely on propaganda to inform our dietary decisions. It's a two edged sword (or scapel?). Dr Ekberg told me today that I cannot have any quality of life unless I exercise. Dr Gundry told me diets high in sugar and saturated fat cause dementia. I hate the idea of losing my mental faculties. It takes the joy out of a piece of cake to think, "this is feeding the sugar bugs that make amyloid plaques."

I can understand (and have heard before) about sugar causing dementia, but I never heard about saturated fats causing it. That doesn't make much sense to me, thinking back to our ancestors. 🤷‍♀️ Awesome loss & good luck with your food choices! 😊

Our ancestors were not eating sucrose or dextrose, they were eating fructose which is metabolized in the liver. It takes sugar and saturated fat together to create amyloid plaques. They are made in the gut, not the brain. If you don't eat a lot of sugar, you will have a smaller population of that bacteria, and be at lower risk of developing that type of dementia.

Oh! Ok! Gotcha! So, it's sugar + saturated fat combined. Understandable.

Seems like sugar is the culprit in so many medical issues from cancer to obesity and all in between. That’s a good way to look at it tho lady. Thank you for the post.

My problem is that as a nurse and someone who was always a science major even prior to that, I don't trust the diet gurus who are making money selling books. I have read some of their books. If these doctor's theories were facts all scientists would be embracing them and we are not. Many of them have no training or real expertise in the field of diets. Not a fan of sugar because through my own personal research on myself I find I react negatively to it. I have no convincing evidence of saturated fats being a problem for me. I don't believe there are one size, fits all diet. Lots of pseudo-science out there. Even from these guys.

Dr Gundry explained we have diagrammed the microbiota only recently and there is much to learn. He discusses it in laymen's terms: "gut buddies" and "gang members." I was listening to him in an Impact Theory podcast and the blurb about the sugar + saturated fat feeding bacteria that create amyloid plaques stuck with me. Pursuant to your comment, Morticia, I poked around the internet and found some more info. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-023-31730-5#ref-CR73. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK554414/#:~:text=LPS%20biogenesis%20employs%20the%20process,leaflet%20of%20the%20outer%20membrane. https://neurosciencenews.com/alzheimers-sugar-metabolism-23313/#:~:text=Key%20Facts%3A,increasing%20the%20risk%20of%20Alzheimer%27s.
