Question for you StomachMonkey: I believe you tried the keto diet, correct? If so, any advice for me? I’d like to try it for a short term. Much appreciated.

I have not and do not advocate for it for the vast majority of people. The reason being is that when calories and protein are equated for, a low carb higher fat diet produces the same result as a high carb low fat diet. Add that to the fact that keto is far more restrictive than necessary for weight loss goals and non-compliance and regression are what happen for 98% of people that use keto for weightloss alone. That being said, for a small group of people it’s fantastic. You just have to know which person you are 😉 What i would recommend is to just focus on hitting calorie and protein targets consistently. Eat carbs and fats at whatever ratio makes you happy, after your protein calories have been accounted for. Best of luck whatever you do. 🤠

Michelle, I'm on Keto, and would not advocate it as it isn't for everyone. I do it because I am a carbohydrate addict... even a small amount of bread or pasta can send me into a 2-year spiral. SM is correct. Aim for calories and protein. Do not quote me on this, but I believe it's 0.8-1.2 grams of protein per LEAN body mass (whatever that is 😉). I aim for 60-80gr but that's me.

Popular protein targets include: For animal/dairy based protein: - 0.8-1.2 grams per lb of lean mass (total body weight minus fat mass) -0.8-1.2 grams per lb of total weight (which is what I do personally) -1 gram of protein per cm in height. Note: If using plant based proteins, increase 1.5 - 2.0 times animal protein numbers due to differences in bioavailability of plant vs. animal protein. These targets are optimal for most people, but nothing is true for 100% of people. Best of luck.

I appreciate all your thoughts. I am thinking of simply reducing my carbs by cutting out bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. Most of the time I eat veggies over all else. Hopefully the simple act of cutting back on refined carbs will help me. Thank you for your insights; I value your opinion.
