It's been tough, every day wondering if my Cat, Tiger will be alive in the morning. He's 18 years old 3 days ago.
today:
4/26/15, 6:30am or so, He’s 99oz. (6.18Lb same wt. when he first got here as a kitten at 4 mo old) Tiger not eating, just took a lick or 2 of gravy, then a little water, but a little later threw it up in a plastic bag, since I saw he was about to do it. He hasn’t eaten since, and at 11:35am he did drink some water, likely rainwater in the basin next door. He drank quite a bit. Then he laid under a pickup, then in the shade on south corner of my pavement.
12pm, I went out & sat with him a bit, and he’s not interested in coming in the house. Still not wanting to eat, he didn’t even check for food when we walked right by neighbors feral cat food place.
He has been staying outside, but I noticed he ate some of the gravy, so I just finished mowing the yard and he meowed, so I gave him some more gravy and water and he's eating the gravy 1:30 p.m.
He's looking better, so I gave him some more gravy from the food packs.
I just realized, Tiger may not die. In fact fear of him dying may cause it. Most vets & people recommend ‘putting to sleep’ in case they are in pain.
Well, Tiger rallied once before in 2011, the vet wanted to do surgery, says she found a lump, put him on meds.
I declined, thinking if he's going to die, I'd much rather he was at home with me, in his comfortable safe home and environment. Tiger had lost a lot of weight in a short time, not eating or drinking for almost a week.
Well he got better within 3 days. Healthy as ever. But wouldn't have been if I'd let the vet cut him open for a deep biopsy.
So, this time he may die. but I decided to trust him. Treat him like he’s sick and needs attention, not like he’s about to die.
