How is it possible that a slice of raw bacon contains different calories as opposed to a slice of cooked bacon?

Cooked meat has lots some of it water content and is, therefore, slightly more concentrated. The more you cook the meat, the more concentrated it will be.

And therefore that decreases the calories?

No, the calories should increase. 100g of raw bacon should have less calories than 100g of cooked bacon. Maybe an error on the system. I have picked up quite a few pieces of incorrect data on fs. Just consider that after cooking the bacon, that same piece of bacon won't weight 100g anymore, since it lost some water.

So as Zaainkie is explaining - as meat is cooked it loses water content, so you put in 100g bacon in the pan - if you take that same input back out of the pan, it no longer weighs 100g - this bacon will have the same calorie content as the original raw 100g (provided you did not add fats like oil to cook in), but it no longer weighs 100g. If you need 100g cooked meat, you would have needed to add more than 100g before starting to cook. So no, a cooked slice of bacon does not have more calories than an uncooked slice of bacon, they have the same provided you did not add fat to cook in, but the cooked bacon (or other meat) will weigh less than the uncooked bacon, due to loss of water content, so the calories appear more concentrated in the cooked slice. But if you are tracking your calories on the app, use the raw weight of meats, that is the correct way to track, raw veg, raw rice, etc. There is also a big "loop hole" in the app in the sense that people can add their own information - so you'll find plenty of random ones, for example I've seen related to bacon "1 thin slice yield after cooking". I don't trust those in general because tons of people don't know how to properly input information even from the label.

Wow, now understand. Thank you very much for the explanation it makes a lot of sense. It's funny how I'd want to pick cooked grams in meat because obviously calories are lower and other foods that absorb water like rice I'd pick raw. I realized that no I need a standard measure I can't pick what's favorable for me. From now on I will measure everything raw.Thank you so much guys for the enlightenment. Xxx
