Recently someone asked me how I got my cholesterol to drop 20+ points in a year. I believe one of the key contributors is my first meal of the day. Every morning I eat the same thing. Quick oats mixed with protein powder and topped with fruit or cinnamon. Yogurt, banana, coffee mixed with creatinine and my daily supplements. All bloodwork is in check too! I also haven’t had a cold in over 2 years, even with sick kids running around the house and I firmly believe that is from adding vitamin D3 to my daily routine. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyway, had some extra time this morning and figured I’d share.

Ingredients:
Oatmeal :
80g Quick oats
2 scoops of vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup blueberries

Supplements:
Creatinine powder 5mg
Vitamin D-3 5000IU
coral calcium 400mg
magnesium 200mg
Omega-3 1000mg

Total protein from this meal = 75g

My cholesterol has been a little too high twice. Both times I stopped eating eggs, shrimp and red meat until I got another blood test and then it was fine. Wish I could eat oatmeal. Something about the texture.....it belongs it cookies.

I too had high LDL, I ate oatmeal, daily, with whey protein snd ground flax seed for 3 months. my LDL dropped 51 points in 3 months, a friend started to eat the same for her high ldl, her dr doubted it would make a difference, wanted her to take statin. She tried the oatmeal combo for 3 months and hers dropped 52 points. Her dr was amazed. Can’t say it will work for everyone, but sure helped us.

Good job on lowering your cholesterol. That is hard to do if you start from a fairly healthy weight, diet and already exercising. I had about the same results a few years ago but the challenge I had is what I thought was healthy... just like the healthy range on a BMI chart. Where did I want to be in that range. Do you look at HDL, LDL or just total ?

CRazyCat, the total is shown in the pic but I look at both. My LDL went from 150 down to 122; HDL went from 54 to 55. I have high cholesterol mostly from hereditary reasons. This was the first year that I can remember that I was in the acceptable range (less than 200).

That is great you were able to lower LDL and keep HDL constant. For most people it is difficult to find that balance.

Crboyer, same happened to me. My doctor gave my a diet plan with the objective to say under 100mg of cholesterol intake per day. I told him that diet doesn’t work for me and my fitness goals.😂 So I experimented with oatmeal and shocked him. 😂

my HDL changed from 58 to 57 w the oatmeal, so pretty much the same. All in all a win. My ldl went from 171 to 120, my dr was happy. I was already at a “ normal weight” for my height and have been consistently active my adult life, I’m 62. So not much I could change except my diet.

Great news and great meals. Oats all the whey.

Great post! I love oatmeal but by itself, it just doesn't hold me over. Seeing you add the protein powder to it inspired me to try adding an egg instead (my cholesterol is ok). I had it as a snack today, and will try eating it for breakfast all week to see if it will hold me over. Also, nice job dropping your numbers. Nice to see this particular problem didn't need to be resolved by going on meds!
