The 7th birthday party was a success. What a fun day and he did awesome at the 5K.

When asked what he wanted for breakfast, he said, "Sherbert!" OK, so orange sherbert it is! The rest of the morning was relaxed as I knew we'd be in for a busy rest afternoon/night.

We had his party at a local gymnastics school. The coaches put on a great program for birthday parties. It was a wet, rainy day outside so it was great for the kids to have an indoor facility to play in. There were a bunch of happy, sweaty kids running around by the end of the party...me included! I had fun trying to keep up with them!

Turn around before the 5K went faster than I expected. We had time to get something for dinner and unpack the car when it was time to head to the event. I had convinced my 10 year old nephew to join us, too. It was his first 5K.

Wonderful family/kid friendly events took place at the event. We took time to run their obstacle course, and play at the playgrounds...and in all of the puddles. Then off to our car to get our glow gear on for the run.

The boys did great. My son asked for a few "mommy-back-rides" along the trail...and when the trail went UP the ski hill, I did my best to oblige. I got a few "way to go, mom" from those I passed on the way up the hill with the birthday boy on my back. "It's what moms do" I replied. Only 1 other time did I piggy-back him. My husband helped him out maybe twice along the trail, too, but other than that he did it on his own.

My nephew did amazing. As this was his first 5K, I didn't know what to expect (and his parents didn't think he'd make it), but he's got some tenacity! He was always ready to run when we ran, and had a nice 'kick' at the end of the trail. He told me, "I just did what you told me, Auntie. If you want the race to be over with...run faster!" and that's what he did.

Kids (and us) finished with a time of 49:25. So damn proud of those 2, and so thankful to have the ability to be there with them every step of the glow-stick lit way!
