Finally have the chance to log a journal about the bike race this past weekend. The kids did great...I'm one proud momma.

My 6YO son wanted to help my daughter out in her race. Yes, my 19 month old daughter did a little 50 yard bike race. It's always a cute event for the kids. He helped push her little push car to the finish line and as the volunteers handed out ribbons, she was signing "more" as she still wanted to keep going.

Immediately following her 'race', my son had to line up for his event. Just a little 1 mile race, but he does it all by himself (in the past I've run it along side him). His race began and I started running along and taking short cuts so that I could take pictures of him on the course. There came a point that I couldn't keep ahead of him, so I just said, "see you at the finish buddy" and watched him go.

Once out of sight, I turned around and to my surprise, up the road comes my daughter on her push car. Dad was walking alongside her as she was adamant on doing it by herself. I figured once she caught up to where I was standing, she'd hang out and wait with me. Nope! She saw the other racers take the corner and she was going to do the same. I tried to lure her back, but she'd just wave and say, "bye!"

So husband continued on with her and I waited for my son near the finish. He did great! I ran with him through the finish line, he too got his finishers ribbon, and we proceeded to the refreshments...which is why I think he likes to do these races to begin with.

After grabbing a few donut holes and some water, we walked back out to the course to see if we could find little sister and dad. They were finally coming around the corner to cheers of some loyal fans. My husband said she did about a third of the course on her own and then she needed help being pushed back to the finish line. My son opted to ride his bike back out to meet her on the course, and he rode with her back through the finish.

As much as I miss my days of bike racing, I can't explain how thrilled I am to see my kids take to the sport. I hope it is something they continue to pursue in the years to come.

The rest of the weekend was pretty much either resting or trying to keep up with the kiddos. We had some great weather so it was nice to get outside and run around. I don't need a planned workout routine on the weekends as I have those 2 to keep up with :-)

LOVE that he rode his bike back to join his sister. So nice. That is good parenting in action.

@Kristyanne3: Yes, my kids get along pretty well. It was my son that says he prayed really hard to have a little sister and that she's the best Christmas present ever. Oh, they have their moments (like all siblings, I guess), but I'm blessed that they really do look out for each other.

Sounds like you had a great time! Isn't it a little odd to give someone donuts after they finished a race? lol How about some fruit?

Maybe a sponsor is a donut shop??? Not a very nutrition friendly snack. Definitely fruit would have been a better choice.

LOL - Well, they do OFFER bananas, etc. But what 6 year old would take that when donut holes are there, too??? After race 'treats' are always interesting. I remember finishing one of my half-marathons and one of the options was beer. I recall my first thought being, "Yeah right." But as I passed the volunteer holding it out to me my response was, "Hell yeah!"

Proof that a little indulgence is OK now and then.

oh yeah i'd take the beer. LOL. Socolova, you actually run through the mud right? not in a truck. My DD and SIL race mud trucks.

Running....I have gone to bog races though back in Iowa....I come from a racing family so we used to go to any kind of drag or track or mud race back in the day :)
