well i tried eating oatmeal for breakfast yesterday so not plan i know but i felt great for most of the day. but this morning i wake up and weight 3 pounds over night. i know it is just water i feel puffy all over! so it should fall off through out the day. yesterday was my 28 years old sons birthday i made it through making dinner for 8 and home made carrot cake with out cheating. before i started in i whipped up some cream cheese and whipping cream with splenda and a bit of lemon. tasted like cheesecake filling so had a table spoon of that to keep me from dipping into the no nos it worked well and didn't feel crazy about not eating the cake since i had a bit of sweet.but it did bring on the late night cravings later in the evening. so no oatmeal, and no filling for me today and perhaps i will have a chance at dropping back where i belong at this rate i don't think i will ever get out of induction all other foods just mess with me to much... trying to get things done before my trip home at the end of the month but just seem to keep getting side tracked

Laura, I know how you feel about getting out of induction. I truly think that I am relegated to this way of eating from now on. I simply cannot eat the things that other people eat...and the sooner I realize it, the better off I will be. I am getting ready to have my first cup of coffee and a boiled egg for breakfast. Sounds so boring when I say it, but I do like boiled eggs. Your cheesecake filling sounds delish. Great job resisting the temptation of homemade carrot cake. I am quite sure that the weight is just fluid retention and as you said, will be gone by tonight! Have a great Friday, dear. HUGS <3 'sis'!

Oh Laura, you just took a flying leap on up to the very top rung of the Carb Ladder by eating oatmeal. Let me quote from the book in the section on Pre-Maintenance: "Whole Grains: This is usually the last food group to reintroduce (if at all), and with good reason. Ounce for ounce, grains are generally the highest in carb content of any whole food." The book continues, "Even for people with a relatively high ACE, these foods could bait the metabolic bully. Introduce them with care and, if tolerated, consume them in moderation." Just because your body can't handle oatmeal doesn't mean you can't move beyond Induction. There are LOTS of foods available to you beyond Induction, in OWL, before you'd ever get to oatmeal on Rung 10 (!!!) of the Carb Ladder. The key is to add one food at a time in one group at a time, going up the Ladder one rung at a time. Good job, though, on staying away from the carrot cake (I LOVE carrot cake)! My DH has a birthday this month also and I'm going to try a low-carb angelfood-type cake since he's back doing Atkins.

yeah sandy i guess i learned the hard way, i was trying to give myself some healthy carbs before my work out because i got scared when my sugar bottomed out. my exersize makes my mind and body feel so much better i just don't want to give it up but the amount of protein required to keep up is just a lot of meat to eat for one day. food is becoming a punishment in order to eat what i need for the workouts and fats won't nourish my muscles.any suggestions on improving my breakfast so i feel like exersizing would be greatly appreciated and yeah after my weigh in this morning i will not repeat the oatmeal.

stef i hope your weekend goes fantastic! and yeah i get the eggs lol i am beggining to think i will sprout feathers soon! and i like the hard boiled as well, quick and easy will stop playing around with my foods cause i think i am doing more damage than good and just stick to what the pros say we should eat.but i am going to try playing around with the times eating more frequently just wish i could think of something that will work besides chicken and eggs...

Laura, try some bacon, some eggs, some cheese, some beef, some chicken...all those will get you some protein and are Atkins friendly. I try to make some extra meat at dinner so that it is in the fridge in the morning for breakfast. I know that Keli fries bacon on Sunday and Wednesday, and packages it, so that she has a source of protein available for morning, without having to cook it every day. And you need a combo of protein and fat, so the bacon and sausage are good choices.

Tuna, turkey, roast, pork, any of those are fine for breakfast and as snacks.

yeah i was just trying to keep the calories low and the pork and beef bump up the calories pretty high,i really wanted to stay between 1200=1500 but maybe i will have to give that up wanted the 2 pound per week versus 1 guess i can't be so greedy

Laura, at this stage in our journeys, 1 pound a week is a nice steady loss, and with the amount of exercise you are doing 1200 is just too low. That will do more harm than good. As for the cals in pork and beef, You don't have to eat a lot, just a couple of ounces with some eggs, is a good long lasting protein breakfast. According to the PHLAUNT site I need 20 ounces of protein a day (meat, eggs, and hard cheese)...that is a lot, but I am trying and am still keeping the cals pretty much in the right range.

I had forgotten about your epiosode the other day, so it makes sense you'd try to get some healthy carbs to avoid a repeat. Have you looked at the protein shakes? Atkins or otherwise? I know Myree uses them frequently. Small tuna salads made up ahead of time should also work...tuna, small amt. of mayo, even chopped celery, black olives, and chopped boiled eggs makes up a pretty good mix that can be done up ahead of time and kept for any meals, esp. when you need to grab one and go. I also just bought a package of frozen salmon "burgers." Haven't tried them as yet, but they're only 3-4 oz, which is ideal and these particular ones didn't have any fillers adding carbs either.

I'm very proud of you resisting the temptation of home made carrot cake. You did very will. Glad your dinner went well. I'm sure you will be able to move up and Stef you too. It needs to be done so slow though. I too know what you mean about your sugar bottoming out on you. Yes, it is scary. Hang in there because all good things come to those who wait. Hope you had a wonderful day and talk soon my friend.:)
