Anyone following Keto or banting? And how is it going?

Hi DanielaND2017 I am following a Keto diet. So far so good. I also do IF to help things along.

I just turned 40 and I have been struggling with my weight ever since I had my first child at 25. It has been years of up and down. I am only 1.63m and according to fatsecret app I should have 1600cal per day with quite a high carb requirement. I started 24 May. I did the first week at 1600cal put I was struggling to put all that food in. My usual problem is doing great every week from Monday and when a Friday hits I start overeating. So counting and logging calories seems to be working for me. Lost a bit the first week. Then I listened to someone else losing weight and decided to bring my calories down to 1200cal and cutting carbs. I basically lost nothing the second week. Then I research a bit and decided to up my calories a bit to 1250cal and doing keto macros at 5% carbs, 35% macros and 70% fats. I do come to 1250cal every day. But struggling to hit the macros. Fats are hard to eat because when I try and eat all that avo it takes up a lot of my calories for all my other snacks. So just mixing it up a little. I almost always go over my daily carbs, almost always under my daily fats. But sticking to the 1250cal and this morning I was from 24 May down 4.2kgs and I feel amazing. I don't get hungry, but I try to in the week eat most of my calories in the day and keep only 500cal for supper. And on the weekends I normally eat very little during the day with being too busy and then overeat at night. So I try to eat 500cal during the day keep 500cal for supper. And in Cape Town go to Banting Baker Gigi on a Saturday and buy sugar free cakes, brownies, cheesecakes to have 250cal for an af Feels like it is working.ter supper treat to not dig into anything else.

I have been averaging around 1300 cal. Keep my carbs no higher than 20g net, fat around 120g and protein around 90g. Tomorrow will mark 4 weeks and so far have lost 6 kgs. Week 2 & 3 I lost not weight for some reason. I eat two meals a day - lunch at around 12 and then dinner at 6. Hoping to manage another 6 in the next 4 weeks.

That sounds good. Are you drinking enough water? Bodyweight divided by 30 = liters per day

No I haven’t been drinking much water. I’ll try up it this week and see how it goes. It would make me very happy if I could manage 2kg loss this week🤔

Here is a secret as soon as you stand still with your weight loss and it will happen to everyone at some point because your body adjusts to your calorie intake, add 200 - 300cals to your diet depending on how active you are. Do this for a week or two and then go back to your original cals this resets your body to more calories and as soon as you go down with your cals after two weeks the weight will drop. Age old secret you pay a lot of money for but here its for free 👍

Don't focus on a specific kg loss for a week. That would normally put me in a bad headspace. When you are doing everything right and you don't hit the kg loss then you throw out the hard work by saying what you did does not work and then you feel like eating something outside of your calories. I agree with the other poster. Sometimes you have to trick your body. Have 2 days of 1350cal, still healthy calories, throw in some brisk walking if it will make you feel better and drink lots of water. And then go back to 1250cal and see if it helps. If it does not# change it up. Experiment with upping calories in a controlled manner and then lowering again to see if calorie cycling works for you. You should stay inside your weekly calories.

@MvanRhyn bodyweight divided by 30 =3,5lts 😳 . Does this mean I must drink 3,5lts a day?

@msikade a tip I saw from someone and then checked it on the internet. It is a lot! I started with a ridiculous amount of water and it every time I lost weight I adjust it down just to drink a bit less. Weekends I struggle, but in the week sitting in front of my computer the whole day working I just put the amount of water for the day next to me and make sure I drink it up.

I'm doing carnivore. I posted on my journal this morning my results after a month. I'll paste here for you to see. Officially one month carnivore today! Thrilled with the results, I'm down 20lbs. But over and above that the health benefits I've seen in the last month. My hair which used to fall out in handfuls everytime I brushed or washed it, now doesn't fall out at all. I've never slept through the night on my life as I used to get up 2/3 times a night to pee, I now sleep through and sleep alot deeper. I've had no ibs symptoms since going cv. All the dry skin issues I used to have, including dry heels, have vanished. I have so much more energy and feel great!
