Subsequent research showed that even if that was true the runners if they did get heart attack were more likely to survive than non runners so it was a zero sum thing more or less

I feel like there would have to be some merit as far as raising your cortisol all the time and stressing your body to the limit. I'm no scientist, I just hate running... 😉

It was not really "runners" and much as the kind of people who run tons. So this would not happen to a person who run a few times a week.

He is credited with helping start America's fitness revolution by popularizing the sport of running and demonstrating the health benefits of regular jogging. He died of a heart attack while jogging at 52 years of age; his genetic predisposition for heart problems and other previous lifestyle factors may have caused his heart attack.

I agree with liv001. The Jim Fixx early death of a heart attach is attributed to genetics and previous lifestyle factors.
