I just put this diatribe on Facebook, but I thought it could be helpful here as well. Most of you already know the “secret”, but I think some are still where I was at 5 years ago.

Happy New Year! January is the time of year people look to make change and I’m no different. Last January, I focused in on my health and made a commitment to change. I’ve done this before, but it finally clicked.

People ask, what are you doing to lose weight. I don’t know that they really want to hear the answer, but I’m going to tell you. It’s not a diet, not a strenuous exercise regime, it’s an education.

I started using FatSecret.com about 8 years ago. It was a way to keep track of my weight. I’ll tell you that seeing your weight go down (or up) doesn’t work.

What worked for me is entering my food into the application so I knew exactly what I was eating. It took some time to learn and get consistent in logging, but it was the one key element that got my mindset right. How do you lose weight? Eat less calories than you burn. That’s the true secret!

I do hear that people feel entering food into an app takes too much time or that it’s difficult to find the food, but it’s not really and your health is worth the time isn’t it? How much time do we spend on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc? I’ll tell you, taking 2 or 3 minutes per feed is going to be worth the time.

Logging is probably the most important thing I do. Keeps me on track. When I look back over my food diaries, the days I am not logging are the days I am not eating the way I should

DP, I think as long as you are benefiting and learning from logging, it makes a lot of sense. It’s also a good habit for people that have had long standing issues with gaining weight or yo yo weight. I also think that people who eat too little should journal. It’s so important for those of us trying to build muscle and lose fat. That’s a very complex process.

DP, people do lose interest pretty quick. I haven’t had hardly any response on my Facebook post. I’m not sure if people are seeing it, but their definitely not responding. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well of course, in my other life, when my weight was normal, I just tried to have healthy, well-balanced meals, but I also ate and drank things that wouldn't fit that description. Today I log every bite and I will continue to do so as long as I find it helpful, because I would really, really like to go through this weight-loss journey only once and any tool that will help me achieve that goal is a treasure.

Chris, I eat their eyeballs when that happens. I wouldn’t have it so hard if I was trying to put on some weight! The Bakery is moving home so this year should be interesting…

For me, this app is the easiest to log my daily intake. Plus, the social network is the best support I’ve ever had!

I guess I am a unicorn then, I’ve got an internal calculator. I don’t need to log to see I went overboard. My favourite jeans and skin aspect work just fine. All the best.

Logging the food was key in seeing how much or little I was eating. It definitely helped me figure out what I should be eating. I also love the data! Lol plus seeing my macros is important to me right now, I love that it’s this easy. Good post👍🏻!!

CICO. All there is to it for weight loss. Protein, a moderate deficit, and resistance training will ensure a great end shape.

Intuitive eating, unicorns, etc are only possible if you were never truly heavy to begin with. Plain and simple. You're not fighting a hardwiring of bad habits.

Correct Diablo. Being overweight your entire life and having a terrible food environment in your formative years will require much deeper learning. If you don’t need to learn what food is and how it affects your body, I don’t know why you’d even be here.

Velvetee... I think you're awesome! And you're successful! 💕 also I recall your thread not long ago being concerned because of a movie you had watched. You mentioned being very aware of every calorie. I think you track everything. You just do it in your head.😉 and whatever works to bring and keep success. There's no right or wrong to it, in my opinion! 😘
