First 3 mile run... and did it in 30 minutes! The extra .1 mile was a walking warmup :) who says weightlifting doesn’t build endurance? 😁

I'm thinking about taking up running in the spring. I figure by then I'll be about 170 and it's gotta be easier to run at 170 than 245... I hope. I just want to be a runner, damn it! That's a pretty quick pace, L2E. Do you typically run shorter distances? I can't imagine just taking off running and not stopping after 3-4 blocks. LOL

Man!! That’s some good numbers. I have an apple watch too so I know that’s impressive!! Great endurance! 👍🏻💪🏻

Thanks! I run about once a week. At the beginning of the summer I did more running and hiking, but I haven’t done much running since July. The furthest I’ve run before nonstop has been 2 miles. I think I’m able to run longer distances because I’ve lost a lot of weight and I have more muscles to carry me around.

I do typically run shorter distances. Usually about a mile or so. I was just thinking today that I couldn’t run this far this fast if I weighed 30 or 40 pounds more. I think my weight was a large part of what was holding me back previously.

That's encouraging!

Your heart rate is fantastic! I don't run on a treadmill, but I'm pretty sure I average higher than that. I'm going to have to check! I don't have a heart monitor so will just have to stop and count with a timer. I'm really happy for you! I ran when I was younger and never thought I would be able to again, but like you said, having less to carry makes it more possible. Plus, I think just being stronger seems to help me. I don't feel as vulnerable to tripping or if I land a step wrong while jogging I am going to hurt myself. It is so freeing to be in better shape isn't it??!!! 😁

Yeah, you couldn't have done that at 291 lbs. Congratulations!

I agree Melissa. Running a mile was a big accomplishment for me in the Spring and I conceded that my body wouldn’t hold up to running long distances. Having lost another 30 or so pounds since then really had made it possible. I felt like I could have run more, but 3 miles seemed like a good place to stop.

Start calling you Forrest! I agree- Melissa- For only being 45, being overweight made me feel wobbly and waddle-ee. LOL- I feel way more sure footed and less prone to injury- just all around stronger from losing weight and lifting weights.

Yeah, love2, no sense going too far too quickly! But, I do think once you can run three miles your breathing is stable and fitness strong enough that you could keep going! On the flat, when I ran on the beach last week, I felt like I could just go and go. Hills... Not so much! 😁 Princess, when you are ready to run, I bet you will find it easier than you remembered! Just do take some time to learn to breathe! Your body will be strong, but I find running is so much easier when you get your breathing figured out!!!

Yippy to being wobbly and waddle-ee free, Princess! That is exactly how I felt. It is scary to not be so very old and feel unstable. So good you can "mature" with strength now! 😁

How do you breathe? In through nose and out through mouth? I either read it somewhere or it's entirely made up. Lol
2019년 11월 3일 작성이: davidsprincess
That is exactly it, Princess. And slow and deep! When I started back up running, I was having such a hard time this summer. I just wasn't able to go far and felt so frustrated. When i consciously made the effort to alter how I was breathing like I used to when I was running ages ago, it all got better! If I can't breath that way and start to really grasp, as I do when the hills are too steep, I know it's time to walk a bit. 😁

I still struggle with the nose mouth thing. I need to try the slow method :) I always think I’m going to hyperventilate.

Love2, the guy who runs with a paper bag to breathe into... Just in case?! 😁 That's like a well know thing for hyperventilation right? 🤣
