Hi guys. Correct me (gently) if I’m wrong but I thought this app is about restricting calorie intake. So I’ve been doing so without really restricting the kinds of foods I eat.

I still eat carbs like bread & rice, but I adjust my portion sizes to comply with my calorie limit.

I see a lot of people on here posting about their diet & feeling bad when they fall off the wagon. This leaves me wondering:

1. Am I meant to be on a diet while on this app? Is this app actually to help you keep track of how your diet is going?
2. Can I lose weight by only adhering to the suggested calorie intake?

I have been on diets & they’ve worked, but I gained the weight back when I couldn’t maintain the lifestyle.

Right now I’m not in the right mindset for s diet but I really want to lose weight.
Please advise.
TIA

👇🏽I’m confused

As per cupcke8677. The FS app itself is for tracking calories and provides a platform for people to share their progress and support each other. But the folk here follow different eating plans: some are on a "diet" (in the common meaning of the word), a lot follow a more low carb approach, a few do a more plant based/vegetarian/vegan thing, and still some eat whatever they want whilst sticking to their recommended calories, etc. You do what's best for you, but we try and support each other along the way. Oh, and Welcome!!

I use this app to keep track of my calorie intake as well as get tips from other people's experiences. I like you am eating my usual food, just limited calories.

Thank you for your responses!! New question 🙈: While I would like to move toward a more healthy eating lifestyle, right now I can’t manage that. Can I still lose weight by just sticking to the proposed calorie count? Can I still have a chocolate or slice of cake, meet my calorie limit by altering other meals of the day, and still lose weight?

To the first question, question, everyone else shares my view: its for calorie counting and support, or that is the way I use it. Then you your second question, I have kept eating what I normally eat, just adjusted the portion sizes and TRY to stay within the calorie limit. I probably succeed on a 80/20 basis. It depends how serious you are about your diet. For me, I am happy now to lose weight slowly and incorporate this app into a learning program for myself: I learn to estimate what I am eating. I will not be the best "diet" buddy because if you check my diet calendar, I eat sweets, cake, chocolate, pastries...I go over my limits on some days and I don't feel guilty... The food choices is my normal diet and I eat LESS of it but I eat it. I do it this way so that when (if!! haha) I hit my goal weight, it hasn't been because I cut out things and then boomarang back to where I was in terms of weight. I try to keep my food as normal as possible. But this is my philosophy. Others are more serious and restrictive. Sure I can do LOTS BETTER, but I am comfortable with my choices most days. Others, yeah, I wish I had a better head for this and to take it a lot more seriously. It is for you to determine what works best for you. The way to lose weight IS calorie restriction. I KNOW that works. But please, please don't think starving yourself or eating very little is going to help you. In the short term it may drop weight, in the long term it does damage. SO whatever you do, limit your calories sensibly please. Good luck :)

And yes, in terms of keeping to the amount of calories and not going over, I have had banana cake, custard and cream for dinner. Not a great choice, but I wanted it. It was dessert or proper dinner. I could do both, but decided to stay undermy limit and had the sweet. As long as it is occassionally - like a chocolate bar for lunch - it is ok, but try to eat properly and make sure your nutrition requirements are met. The sugary things aren't really needed by your body but you can eat it as a meal or a small dinner and a small sweet together. Rather dont do it as a habit.

OMG Ms Cornwall, thank you!! That’s so helpful and is exactly what I’m aiming for- to lose weight eating what I’m currently eating so that when I reach my goal weight I don’t gain it all back again because I missed cake and deserve a reward. I’m glad it can be done and so relieved ❤️ Thanks to all for your help

This might be a silly question but are these posts people put up, journal entries? I'm not sure how to post here on the app.
2019년 07월 19일 작성이: Shane du toit
@Shane - both. journal entries are a function in the weight section of the app. Posts to the social media platform are available by clicking the home button, and at the top right of the screen there are some icons. select the pen to post

AGPA, this app IS for tracking your caloric intake (and expenditure.) But the hard work - choosing healthy foods - is up to you.

Read about replacing food. Normal oil with healthy oil like avokado or olive oil . Margarine to butter. Red meat to venison. Normal chocolate to dark chocolate and so on. Small but healthy changes.

Honey2Bee is right. You can't just continue as is! You have to start making better healthier choices! Small at first. Your family won't even notice if you replace white sugar with brown or cooking oil with olive oil. I have changed slot of small unhealthy habits to more healthy ones and now I can see the benefits. I was in bed for weeks and only gains back 2 kg by fording my new healthy ideas into my mum.

Hey AbPa, the app is what you want it to be. The app is not going to make you eat healthier foods or make you exercise or .... What it does do is when you eat that debonairs double crusty cheese filled rim meaty delux pizza, and you input this into your daily intake log and it says 3000calories, then you realise what the app does. If you are serious about building a healthier lifestyle it will make you understand what you been doing wrong. And then you start thinking about what food you make so that next time you plan to make a peanut butter and jam on white bread sandwich you know it is close on 400 calories. Comparatively each main meal i have is between 400 and 500 calories, and they jam packed meals, 200g mince, 80g tomato, 80g onion, 250g mixed veg, and some other odds and ends come to below 500g and is far more filling than a peanut butter and jam sarmi. So the app helps you understand good food from bad. Also you want to cut down your bad fats, so as the ladies below mentioned you want to eat fat but good ones, like avo, organic coconut oil to cook with, peanut but with no sugar and preservatives, etc. My track record confirms the app works, if you want it too. I dont starve, i eat 2 blocks lindt chocolate 3 times a week, i eat all kinds of meat, seafood and poultry that i used to, however cooked tasty and healthy. I have a cheat ( reward ) day or weekend everytime i need one and then i racked those calories up, but im aware its not sustainable if i want to be healthy. The app also offers huge value in terms of support, by people on here, albeit all of us are anonymous, but knowing that others have the same issues you have, and are kind enough to share how they over come those issue, helps all of us get where we need to be with a lot less ease. You don’t have to comment or participate, but just read and listening to the comments has infinite value. Be honest with the app and yourself, be disciplined with your information you input and still to your goals and targets and the apps going help you make healthier choices which translate to a healthier lifestyle. So go rock your journey and watch your world change

I mainly use the app to track calories whether I'm trying to gain or lose weight.

@Honey2bee and @Helenie72 thank you guys. Since reading this last week I have made changes e.g. I’ve changed from white rice to brown long grain.

@Fat Mike’s Thank you! That was so helpful. I’m really enjoying the support I’m getting on this app. I’ve been on a Facebook forum where I would never dare post anything because I’ve seen the judgemental responses people would get shaming them for not following a diet to the T. Also, you’re so right about being honest with the app. I was cheating myself here and there and under recording my meals. I’ve lost weight since joining last week and I’m so happy 😊
