Low carb diet deficit is healthier, more of a balance diet. Nothing is healthier than a balance diet.

From personal experience, my cholesterol numbers went way up when I tried Keto. On the other hand, I know others have had the opposite effect. I would follow your doctors orders.

Lots of very good information on the internet. Google Keto 101 or something similar and read up on the types of ways of eating that are out there and how they might work for your life. Sustainability is a huge issue. When dealing with t2 diabetes it is going to require a lifestyle change that is sustainable.

My cholesterol improves with keto. Cutting out refined carbs helps. Going low carbs will help you as well if you prefer that. Good luck

I am on the most strict keto - a keto diet for diabetics. I have been on it almost 3 years and have gotten great test results. My diet is monitored by a medical group so I know what works and what has been tested. It will absolutely surprise you what they have taken off the list of approved foods. I test up to 4 times a day and I know exactly which foods affect my glucose levels - while I was learning, I tested 6 times a day, before and after meals. Look up the Virta Health and watch videos by Dr. Phinney. This is information backed up by medical studies - not just someones interpretation of what floats around on the internet.

So, are you supposed to subtract fiber from carbs to get your carb level? So if I had 20 grams of fiber one day and 80 carbs, would I "count" that I only had 60 grams of carbs?

Yes also subtract half of the sugar alcohols, except for erythitol where you subtract total amount

Best guide may be an engineer and doctor who have 73 years of personal experience with diabetes. Dr Richard Bernstein, who at an age of 85 strill work as a doctor, still put out YouTube videos, still go to the gym, wrote the book Diabetes Solution, invented home blood sugar readers... impressive source nof information that can help a long and good life.

Follow your doctor’s advice. The Dr. will be familiar with your personal health issues and needs. For some people, an increase in fat and cholesterol can cause issues. Perhaps once your numbers are lower the doctor would be more comfortable with you trying a keto diet plan. You can still get amazing results with a “diabetic” plan and exercise. It is all about lifestyle change at the end of the day.
