time will tell whether keto is healthy...... me i dont do anything i find harmful. ketosis stresses your most important organs in your body. my opinion. and yes...phen phen stressed the heart... ketosis stresses your liver and kidneys...my opinion based on my research. but since i havent ever concidered a keto diet not sure why my opinion even matters... lol

Our early ancestors were a nomadic people for weather reasons and food availability. They probably did a lot of intermittent fasting, eating when they could find food. We were hunter/gatherers. They did not have reliable weaponryso ate small game when they could then did group assault hunts if they came upon larger animals. The women foraged for greens, nuts seeds whatever they could FIND. They were not able to stay in one place for long. They also did not have reliable fire.they had to rely on lightening strikes and small grass fires. They also didn’t have reliable vessels to carry things in. They had no way of preserving their food. They “binged” on what they had and then mostly just left anything else behind.. prehistoric man had a very small brain. It wasn’t until they achieved better weaponry and they were able to hunt more effectively and theirby take in more protein that their brains grew and we were off and running into the future. Once the ice age receded man began to have l less nomadic lives, agriculture came into play. The first genetically modified food was thought to be corn. Corn is actually a grass and very early on man learned to breed it into a substance that could be fed to cattle and other animal that they were raising. It was similar to maize, a Mexican/Indian corn that was ground up to be made into flour. Ears of corn for the BBQ came much, much later.

Nope. No fad diets for me. Just vegetarian/vegan, and everything in moderation.

Gogogirl59– I recently went to a 3 day obesity conference. I fully expected there to be a presentation on KETO because it is such a hot item. Their mention of it was almost an after thought. Basically short term use ( less than six months), for morbidly obese. Part of the reason they took that position was because it was not viewed as a healthy, sustainable diet as practiced by most people. And the long term side effects were not clear. They also urged that for anyone who chose to do it, they would recommend doing it under the care of a medical practitioner who would monitor their health. I think quite a few people are doing that here which is a good thing. The presenters indicated that post achieving goal weight many people just cannot transition into a more moderate way of eating and loose control. And the yo-yo goes up and down.

Japan, China, Italy etc are all countries that have a very high carb diet and are thin compared to America. It isn't the carbs it's the high calorie easy to overeat foods and a sedentary lifestyle. I and many others on here have gotten into great shape with a 50%+ carb diet. Everyone is doing CICO. Keto is just a tool some find useful. IF is another tool. Find the combination of tools and foods that you can do for life to achieve and maintain a healthy body.

For me whatever you do find a plan that works for you for life. A plan that works with the way you live, work, cook and eat. Something sustainable for the rest of your life. This journey does not have an end.

I didnot have a good experience with keto. it caused many imbalances in my system. I now am recovering with a balanced and healthy meal plan of whole food consisting of 90 percent plants and 10 percent animals products and am feeling much better

What I feel is dangerous about Keto is that people say they don’t feel hunger 😰 How can it be healthy to not have a normal human reaction ? 🤔

Kenna give our Tanzanian ancestors more credit. their is evidence they where trapping Heard's up to 1.6 million years ago... in contrast written word dates back to 3200 BC I believe.

Keto should only be done for 3-4 months. After that you should switch to a plant based diet. Keto diet has been around for a looooooooong time but it was mostly used to treat seizures in kids. Staying in a state of ketosis for long periods of time is not healthy. Keto is a good diet to reverse insulin resistance in a pre-diabetic person. (3 to 4 months)

amen and thank you all...a well balanced diet that includes all food groups in moderation that is nutritious and healthy. supplemented by exercise so you dont intact more than you exert!

Not everyone here does Keto. I for one do not practice Keto although I do use some of the basic principles that I have learned here on occasion. I rely on CICO(calories in vs. calories out) with a focus on meeting my protein goal daily. Everyone has to find what works for them. I do believe that CICO is a component of every weight loss diet including Keto...
